Hey guys
Gamertag: STATIC TREMOR
Age: 38
Location: Melbourne, Australia (GMT +10)
I heard about TORA via Rear View Mirror on FM.net and liked the sound of it.
Also loved the 24 Heures Du Mans teaser trailer, a simple idea perfectly executed - and no strobing lights and dubstep!
Expectations: I'm just looking for some good clean racing with folks who don't try to win at the first turn - my experience with FM4 on XBL is generally a bunch of cliquey kids who drive aggressively and ram anyone who isn't in their club, so I tend to stick to Rivals/Time Attack. I'm hoping TORA can get me hooked up with some people who seek the same thing as me
Experience: Virtual racing only unless you count karts. Owned all the Forzas, lost months of my life to GT on the PSOne, even sunk hundreds into the old Hard Drivin' coin-op (remember that thing?). I'm usually good for top 1-5% on FM4 leaderboards, but rarely make the top 1000.
See you guys out there and bravo on the site - keep it up!

Hey Rage, and welcome to TORA
I'm glad we could make a good first impression, hopefully we can continue with it!
I think you may be the second Australian member we have had, how does the timing work out for you and races that take place in the UK timezone?

Re: Hey guys
Normal races nights at 8pm BST, which is 5am
The endurance races would work quite well though, especially the 24 hours... cos its 24 hours! Suits every time zone!

Re: Hey guys
that first one would be me, and the timezone at the moment is +9 GMT, which is why i couldn't race in the prevvius GT or ISCC races cos it was 6 am monday morning, now its 5 am :s but that gives me more time before school to race...Richy59 wrote:Hey Rage, and welcome to TORA

Re: Hey guys
Thanks for the welcome, lads. Much appreciated.
Yeah, the time difference is gonna be a drag but if I can race on weekends it's not so bad. I work in construction, so a 5am start isn't really a big deal provided it's on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
I think it's important to support initiatives like this one - who knows, Turn 10 could incorporate separate hoppers in conjunction with you guys for Forza 5. I'm sure most of your regulars would fork out a subscription fee for access to a hopper with properly-organised races as opposed to mixing it with the masses. I know I would.
For now though, I need to learn how to tune. I like that I can't use Forza tunes for TORA races due to the specific restrictions - it's forced me to learn a new skill.

Re: Hey guys
Hmm.. hate to bump my own thread but wasn't sure where else to post this.
I've made two decisions this weekend. One is to build a Simul8r-style PVC rig for Forza and the other is to hold off entering any TORA races until I've completed it. I've gone as far as I can go steering with the left stick, and the fear of my thumb slipping off halfway through a corner and knocking another TORA racer (not to mention my reputation) into the scenery is more than I can cope with..
As such, I've researched the Fanatec gear I want, secured a car seat and started assembling the rig. I reckon the project should be complete and running in about a month-ish.
Bottom line: I do intend to use my TORA race number and don't want admin thinking I'm one of those people who register, tie up a race number and never come back. Number 303 will not be going to waste!
Here's a crap pic of the rig progress so far. Only the front is glued, the other braces are just there to hold it square and so the kid doesn't use them as a trumpet.. Sorry image is so huge, I shrunk it twice and it's only 51k but the forum insists on making it this big.

Re: Hey guys
At least your making an effort in going DIY, I just bought mine
Regarding your CSR purchase, I would highly highly recommend saving up and getting a CSR Elite and the Elite pedals are a must. I tried out a standard CSR a few weeks ago and compared to my Elite it's like driving with an old MS Wireless wheel. The Elite truly is worth every penny.

Hello Rage!
I've been thinking about building my own rig like that (i've downloaded the Simul8r instructions), but sadly I just don't have the space at the moment
Good luck with your build, and keep up the good work!

Re: Hey guys
Richy - I'd love a CSR Elite wheel, but sadly I'll have to settle for the CSR with Elite pedals.. just can't justify the extra $500 right now.
Still, who knows - I've got a 7 year-old son who loves his Forza, he already drives manual/no TCS/no rewind so I'm sure at some point down the road we're gonna need a second wheel...
Beanz - I don't have room either really, the rig is just gonna have to live in a corner of the lounge room or be carried into the garage. A man's gotta do, etc..

Re: Hey guys
When I was 7 I was chasing clouds...
If he was a bit older you could form a father/son team. Now that is a hobby I'd love to share with my dad! I've been looking into Fanatec wheels myself but don't have the financial support for it
If you race/raced Karts than you should have a chinwag with AudiSport Louis & BuckeyeBullet. They are the established 'Kart Racers' around here

Re: Hey guys
Hard Drivin, hah, I remember that bad boy. Must of spent a small fortune on it myself in the very early 90's trying to get that loop-the-loop right, think it was the first driving game that used a clutch as well.STATIC TREMOR wrote:

Re: Hey guys
Thanks guys.
Karts was a while back now, sadly. Someone mentioned a father/son TORA team which may be on the cards. Also considering buying the kid a kart in a few years so who knows.. just as easy to tow two as it is one!
Yep, Hard Drivin' was the first co-op to offer a clutch. I basically learned the basics of how to drive a car from that game. Good times.
