After occupying a deal with Porsche for the up and coming TORA ISCC series to race their Posche Spyder Evo LMP2 car, Gecko Racing also managed to land a place on the private testing list for California's Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to use the track and specialised crew along with his own when every they felt it was needed to optimise their chances in the coming season. During his first testing of the Porsche at the track, DHL CEO Larry Hillblom sneaked in to have a peak at the rookie while he was testing.
he said 'I have seen him during testing for the GT series and saw potenial, the again at Le Mans recently, he has potential to be a quick driver, just needs to find his footing and get some more experience. So, I have come out today to see whether or not he would be suitable for what i have to offer.'

After hours of testing in the hot Californian sun, Gecko Racing head driver, GRT 458Italia, managed to drop 3 and a half seconds off his time thanks to the hard work the team had put into getting the right tune.
I still think we can get the car to go quicker, but as we have not long got the car, and we are a small team, it's going really well, I won't be able to say how quick it is until the season begins in a few weeks and i'm with the other driers, but the car feels great and can't wait to get started

Once testing had concluded and the debrief had be concluded, Hillblom then approached Italia to talk to him about the deal. Although it was a short conversation, it was still very thorough and intricate with many quaestions asked. Gecko Racing was given the deal: "1 season, get as many points as you can and then we will work from there" which he was pleased with and the sponsorship was confirmed.
