Canadian Motorspeedway
Yes, my fellow Canuckians IT'S BEEN APPROVED!!
The newly approved Canadian Motor Speedway, which will be constructed in Fort Erie, ONT (4mi from the Buffalo, NY border) will *hopefully* be ready in the latter part of 2013, although I suspect it won't be ready until 2014.
The track consists of a 1.0mi progressive banked oval designed by 4x NASCAR champ, Jeff Gordon, AND a 2.5mi road course what weaves in and out of the oval and shares oval's front straight and most corners. The road course has multiple layouts and include those which don't use the oval at all. The seating can support 65,000 people when it is built, where spectators can view the oval and road course sections from thier seats. Plans will be to add seats in the future. It will also have a karting track.
Track Layout:
Concept Art:
It will also house multiple facilities like shops and financial buildings to make the whole complex a "racing city".
The facility hopes to organize events like NASCAR (whether it be the Canadian Tire Series or any of the 3 Grand National series), IRL, and even ALMS/GrandAM in the future.
This is the first facility of its kind in Canada, and by far the biggest oval in Canada (seating and actual track length).
Part of it's hopefull success will be its closeness to the USA, where many teams can easily get there without having the longer journey to Montreal or even Mosport.
LETS HOPE WE GET SOME DATES!! I'm sure as hell to go.

Grew up in Erie, Pa. in the 50's-60's. Wish they would have hade this then. My dad took me to Watkins Glen in 1959, still remember the Jag's.

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
I've been to Mosport and a couple of local short tracks, but nothing like this. I am VERY much looking forward to this. I've been keeping my eye on this for 4 years now. It has been at the mercy of the city councils for 3 of them but FINALLY its approved!
im soo happy

This looks promising!
the way that Front-straight on the Oval layout sorta reminds me of a mirrored image of the old Rockingham NC track

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
now that you mention it, it does quite a bit.
I keep reading in places that it's gonna be a D-Oval, like Atlanta, Texas and Charlotte, I really don't see it in the sketches. it would be kool tho.
However, whats more interesting is how the full length RC will work. It looks like after the bridge it will have to make 3 lefts to make a right back into the oval. So they'd have to set up tire barriers to prevent cars getting into the first right of the RC section.
I'm also liking the moss corner esque double left apex on the far right of the RC.
ITS JUST AWESOME. Granted on it's own the RC isn't really top notch, but add the oval to it and it is just unique in the world. The only other track that comes to mind that has something similar is Lausitz if you count the test track section (being outside the track).

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
I doubt that, it would be awesome, but I highly doubt it. It will most likely be done (best case) at the same time as FM5. Could see it for FM6. UNLESS they somehow model it whilst they are building it, which is possible. OR take the Codemasters approach and use the blueprints and the concept art to virually create it.
either way it's a stretch
either way it's a stretch
Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
I doubt this track will make it onto a game. There are far better tracks that need to be in the game before this is even given a thought. I'd think that COTA in Austin stands way above this.

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
I hope that road course section gets a redo, because I can see no safe or logical layout that the ALMS could use...

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
you can't nessesarily judge the course on the layout alone. im sure it would bring great racing. and these ARE just concepts, they could change it.
no offense to anyone but tracks like Mid-Ohio or even my beloved Mosport layouts don't look like anything special, but they are two of the best tracks in the world.
plus it will gets walls and barriers etc etc.

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
For all the money it'll cost & based off the concept images, it seems a pretty poor effort & the focus just seems to be about the speedway. That's fine for NASCAR, IRL & other speedway-based motorsport series, but other then that, I don't really like it at all.
Like Nicky said, "the road course does look an afterthought."

Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
In NA NASCAR is the only series that race tracks profit from so it makes economic sense to make NASCAR the priority. Other than sebring and Petit LeMans ALMS draws smallish groups of fans... nothing that fits the word "crowd" anyway.
Re: Canadian Motorspeedway
im sure the full road course with the oval bit will be quite exciting to watch. The road course on its own will probably be for local series, like the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, which has A LOT more road courses (sheer number and as a percentage) than the 3 national series. That and probably Star Mazda Series as well.
OR TRACK DAYS!!!
either way its fits the bill.
