I had no idea that this had been announced, but its great news. We totally have to do a race when it comes out
In fact, we should totally do one in the first game lol
oh, and I found this fan site, the game is lookin good...even alough the screenies are 'target' shots lol

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
lol, i remeber the actual WRC games on the PS2, they were pretty good games, i prefered them over the McRae series for awhile. But now evolution studios who created them have turned to motorstorm....and its not exactly a realistic rally game lol

I'm with you there, hopefully we won't see a huge amount of X Games style stadium races in Dirt 2, although I get the feeling thats the way they might be headed after the original. I really liked the basic rallying in the first game but after a quick go of most of the races in the rally world mode I never bothered with them again.
Did anyone play Richard Burns Rally by the way? By far the single most difficult game I've ever played.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
its great news!!! ! i love all the Colin McRae games got everyone too.Richard Burns is hard but with less cars and tracks it was always going to be beaten by CM.I bought Dirt when it first came out as a wee present for myself i was addicated for weeks.Theres so many races and cars you really are spoiled for choice.Multiplayer is the only let down i think but it usaully is in rally games cause of way rallys work.Fingers crossed they might have sorted something out.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
DIRT was good, arcadey, but great, had proper rallying with some great stages, had Rallycross, which is brilliant, a very popular form of racing in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. CORR Pro Series, another great real life championship, not my favourite, but great, and Hillclimb ( )
DIRT 2 will probably be all WOAH DUDE YOU GOT BIIG AIR MAN, WOOOOT etc. The only good thing i can imagine that will be in it is a very good graphics and damage engine, and... Derick Ringer as the co-driver, as Ringer is Pastranas co-driver at the moment

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
yeah the first game was great, i really enjoyed it, if it was a bit too arcady. I am hoping that Dirt 2 will make the handling more realistic after the flak that they got after Grid.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
During the presentation, the big theme that Codemasters was hammering on for this sequel was the idea of off-road racing with an extreme sports attitude. What does that mean, exactly? The first game featured voice-over work by motocross legend Travis Pastrana, but this time around Codemasters is looking to go full tilt with the game's presentation. A teaser video revealed a scene from the player's RV, the hub where you control all your career mode exploits, and it was a raucous collection of grime, half-naked women, and general insanity.

Think I'll wait on this to see how much of the game is proper rallying. Looks like they've made some good progress with the game itself, but its looking like a lot of circuit racing with huge jumps around various landmarks/stadiums.

Oh yeah turn on the game set the damage to realistic start game pull away from the line get a time pinalty for going before the lights went out get to the first corner smash into the tree then get the terminal damage screen come up. that game was lots of fun lol I remember one of the tracks it had what seemed like a cliff in the game going flat out over the crest but the other side of it just dropped and the air time was bloody long for a car

theres a WRC game in the works at the moment for a few years time in wihcih you can compete against real world stage times as thy happen, which means full proper stages with good physics!

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
as an american and a rally fan im looking forward to this. while the physics may not be the best, it nay shine some light on the little sport of rallying in america! im personally going to pre order it, forza 3 and need for speed shift and am looking forward to the tora rally series
Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
I personaly didn't like the idea of DIRT 2, as much as I loved DIRT, I really just dont like this extreme 'attitude' to Rallying, sure, its great that people are joining, but common! Travis Pastrana, im cool with him, im alright with him in there, doesn't seem to have some sort of X Games ego. Ken Block however, with his stupid looking hats sponsored my Monster and acting like a gangsta and someone from Jackass at the same time, 'duuuuude look how i got this AWSOMENATIOUS AIR MAAAN!'..
And Dave Mirra, doesn't he ride little kiddies bikes in the bit of B&Q with all the wood?
HOWEVER...
I have recently seen some development of the game on the internet somewhere with some gameplay. Looks ddaaayum good! Traditional Rallying and Rallycross is all I want.
I want some forrest in Kielder where its all muddy and raining and im driving a Skoda Fabia S2000, not some barriered up stage with grandstands, big jumps and a wee Scooby.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
In america though, people want the big air, jumps, and the bad boy "skater" attitude so its just playing to the market. i dont think it will be all stadiums, i think thats just a game mode. probalbly like "race of champions"
Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
I think the stadium thing is very cool and it will be awesome to have some head to head style racing in that kind of environment, but I really hope they have some real rally stages in it aswell to cater to the real rally fans.
Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
it looks like it will. as i said, i think the stadium thing is an addition. if you look at the screenshots, it seems to have real stages, and possibly a 2wd class (i saw a bmw z4 )
Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
The cars I saw in the studio tour were:
Old Shape Impreza
New shape Impreza
Mitsubishi Evo X
CORR Truck
CORR Buggy
I ran a series on DIRT with a friend, it was brilliant stuff, I remember I was on a flyer of a run, FFB shaking my eye sockets out on a flat out section of the stage, a corner from the end, a 'dip into six right', got an awkward jump going into the dip, landed, car shot into the trees, took out a wooden fence over a cattle grid, the car hit a tree while on its side, I rolled across to the other side of the stage, another big hit, although i didnt see what it was (the FFB in crashes is amazing, goes light in mid air, as soon as you hit something you know all about it! I took my hands off the wheel at this point) then my car came to a rest at the side of the stage on its wheels. I went to the exterior cam, roof was mashed right in, front end of the car was all bent, rear of the car was squished on the left side to look like half hatchback, half saloon
Lost the podium as this run was 2 mins from the time deadline on the forum.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
I loved Dirt and I was amazed at how strong the FFB was in that game. Forza is really weak compared to the Codies games
Re: Colin McRae Dirt 2
I actualy had to turn down wheel stiffness, because full lock was only a few degrees of rotation, I had been expecting to be crossed up most of the time, effortlessly swinging the wheel, a wee dab of oppo here and there.
I did manage to achieve this, so fun.
