Sandy Hook Tragedy

From the president: "I offer Gov. Malloy my condolences on behalf of the nation."

The president appears to be emotional, he's wiping his left eye.

Here's more of what he's saying:

"We've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. Each time I learn the news I react not as a president but as anybody else would as a parent.

"That was especially true today.

"I know there's not a parent in America that doesn't feel the same overwhelming grief that i do.

"The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10.

"They had their entire lives ahead of them, birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own."

Obama sighed.

I tried calling in on Fox News but that failed... In the wake of a tragedy, news reporters don't care, the want the latest and greatest. But at what cost, the Ryan Lanza that is alive and a normal person who plays black ops like the rest is getting blitzed with horrible comments and jestures. It just sickens me

Update to his Facebook, after some 20k shares and horrible comments he deleted it.... Yeah a dead guy can't delete his own Facebook...

That Facebook this happened before fairly recently. The news named someone and a randomer with the same name got a load of bollocking.

Also, I read somewhere that "It's the worst school shooting in US history".... Like that's a regular occurrence.

I called CNN and actually spoke to one of the ppl and told them about what happened to the alive and well Ryan Lanza... And I dimly said they need to correct the issue and apologize to the that guy

I tweeted the idiot reporter who made it public. they've deleted the tweet with the guy's fb url. no apology tho.

Started watching CNN to see if they would correct their mistake and nope, still reporting the wrong guy.... It really pisses me off

For those wondering, my work place is just under 1.5 miles from the schoool where this went down (I live in Danbury, CT; about 10 miles from my work place). My friend was trying to leave a bagel shop with breakfast goodies and saw 5 Newtown Cop cars FLYING down the street in that direction (about 9:35am, not the reported 9:41am), and I had heard the sirens during my walk around the buidling's parking lot. Came back inside and heard what was going on. Very tragic! Killed his brother in Hoboken NJ, drove all the way up here to kill his mother in the school and continued firing on the kindergarten children in her class that she taught. Truely sickening. Prayers go to the families who've lost loved ones

Of course not the time to discuss the right to bear arms issue, but it is about time someone who has the ability to change that amendment, realised that it's a lot easier to shoot someone if you've got a gun!

Regarding any changes to it, I don't know the political procedure for it all, but Obama has now been voted into his last term in office. He can't get back in, now is the time to make some radical changes.

obama has already said he's not going to do anything regarding gun control.

also, the guns were legally purchased and registered in the shooters mothers name...

It seems that the guy had his brother's ID on him, hence the wrong name being reported.

It was his mother that he killed away from the school, which happened to be her workplace.

And he had serious mental health issues, including but not limited to autism.

Gun control laws would solve nothing. One, if a young man with serious mental issues can get two pistols and an AR-15 in his hands he can with or without them. When someone goes on a stabbing massacre or burns houses down we don't say outlaw knives and fires dammit!

Over here people are allowed to have carry/conceal licenses in most every state. Places you cannot carry are schools, bars, malls, theaters, etc. This is why the massacres happen here. Psychotic idiots prey on vulnerabilities in things and vulnerable people. If he was crazy enough to shoot and kill 20 innocent children he would have done something just as horrendous with something else.

Even with firearms not readily available it happens over her as well. I live not far from Dunblane, and the ids were only 5-6 years old.

I guess these idiots will always find a way to cause chaos no matter what precautions are in place.

Making schools a safer place I think should be mandatory globally, bullying should be dealt with severely when discovered, abuse from any angle should be picked up on and again dealt with severely, these are often the ignitor for these situations.

Idea, why can every classroom not be electronically lockable upon an emergency, scenario, a guy walks in, gun shots are heard, the alarm sounds and every classroom is now electronically sealed, surely this would massively limit any loss of life.

My thought s go out to every life that has been lost or affected, I mentioned this to the wife, she goes to church once a month, she is going this sunday and has already spoken to the priest who would like to say a prayer and read a passage in sake of the lost.

Problem with an automatic lockdown is you actually lock the guy inside wherever the shots are. I know in my county a police officer is always there and it's mandatory.

I voiced my opinion on the subject of gun control on FB and got thoroughly attacked by gun toting friends of mine.

Guns are available everywhere... but there is no good reason for anyone to have thousands of rounds of ammo.

With such a large number of firearms there has to be something in place to prevent incidents like this.

However, if the likelihood of this happening is so low in the first place, and (America being as big as it is) almost impossible to predict the location of, then trying to have everywhere prepared for every possible scenario and risk is unfeasible.

It is all well and good to suggest changes such as the tightening of gun laws but the difference between saying and doing is monumental. While the idea of it is something people can easily get behind, actually putting something in place is going to be impossibly hard.

There is a large percentage of Americans that are adamantly opposed to any form of gun control, which IMO is the root of the problem.

On a related note: I have made two decals and put them on my SF free of charge. Both say "Remember the Children, Sandy Hook". One is on a banner, the other is on a black ribbon.
