Connection speed question Empty Connection speed question

Post by theboomeranga Sun 20 Jan 2013 - 22:06

hey guys, as you all know or have heard of, my internet can have a great day, and 2 hours later is slowler than a snail. i want to get quicker internet, but it isn't going to suit us finacially at the moment. so i've been trying different things to speed it up like restarting the router, turning everything else off when i'm online etc. they seem to work for a while, but nothing perminent. so i was wondering if you guys had any ideas that work and don't cost a heap.

one thing i was wondering would work is if i get a shorter ethernet cable? my xbox sits on the cupboard next to my computer and modum, so if i get a shorter cable, would that work because i have heard talk that the shorter the cable, the quicker the speed, is this true and will it work?

thanks guys

ok cool, because i have the standard cable that came with the xbox, which isn't exactly short or fat, then when i steel the 1m one from my computer, which is also thicker, that helps, so i'll get another one

The length of the cable won't make a difference to the speed, only the latency, but the difference it makes will be so minimal it's unreal.

I've used a 30m cable that's like wrestling with a snake before with no issue, you're network INTERNALLY is no the problem, it's out to the rest of the internet that's your limiting factor...

Could always move to the UK and get Virgin Broadband at 120Mb. Very Happy

As Beanz says, the Ethernet cable will not make a squat of difference. What speed to you subscribe too with your provider?
