Anyone know why they use different timing lines instead of the start/finish line for qualifying? I've seen this difference both at Long Beach (I was there for Q, not the race) and Baltimore (on a highlight reel).

What do you mean? Where are they on the track? Many European circuits have been doing this for years, by having the timing line before the back of the grid.

Mid Ohio's been using a separate S/F on the back straight for years too.

I know what you are saying about F1 and Mid-Ohio, but as you can see in the video, Baltimore has its Q line nowhere near the s/f line.

They do that on street courses so that you can directly to the pits w/o an additional lap in the Q Sessions.

That makes sense, thanks. I guess they'll do that at Houston, too.

Also, I've heard so much whining on the now-defunct speedtv.com (it's now its own blog on foxsports.com with no comment section) about how putting a race on the Indy GP course would be a really bad idea. Well I guess Indycar ignored those opinions, and they decided to test there anyway. I won't choose a side, yet.

Also, I might be going to the MavTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway. My dad hasn't purchased them yet. I also heard that after this year, they might be changing the triple crown races to Indy in May, Fontana in June, and Pocono in July. My opinion is that Fontana should be in April and Pocono in June, but that might cause the Fontana and Pocono races to be too close to the Sprint Cup races at those tracks. Fontana, anytime between May and October is too hot, but March and April sees odd weather. I remember going to the old Ontario Motor Speedway in March (USAC) and November (NASCAR) and driving past blown over big rigs to get to the track... high winds and Indycars don't mix. The track isn't that bad, but the location is horrible.

Plus, they wouldn't want to schedule Fontuana too close to Long Beach, as it would guarantee that nobody shows up for the oval.

They do go to Michigan: Belle Isle.

I'd rather they go to Michigan International Speedway instead of either Belle Isle or Fontana.

Basically, I just want the old CART calendar from 1995 back. But then, CART back then was on a par with F1 in terms of speed.

Let me update u on that. Spinal fracture, right ankle fracture and concussion. Latest news is that he's gonna need a 2nd surgery on the right ankle. Still, could have been much worse.

I hate street circuits for the lack of run-off... evidently something that we will all learn when TORA visits Long Beach in FM5.

Having been to LBGP a few times, I have an intense hatred of that venue. I cannot wrap my head around paying good money for tix just to see 100m of circuit. The only way I ever returned was with free tickets, and every time I went at the end of the day I felt it was a waste of time going.

The Toronto Circuit also has had problems. A guy died there after getting airbourne and wrapping himself around a pole. It's a lot better now, but thats why Street courses are so exciting.
