Colin McRae
The 17th of September 2007, four years ago, we lost Colin McRae, one of the finest drivers to have competed on the world level in motorsport. Let this thread not to be a place to discuss his death, but a place to post your favourite McRae moment, whether that be of personal experience, or in video form.
I'll kick things off with one of his spectacular onboards, Wales Rally GB 2001, piloting the iconic (and somewhat infamous after the title eluded him at this very rally) Martini Liveried Ford Focus Mk1.
What you see here is a combination of total trust in Nicky Grist's pace notes, total commitment in the corners, and you can also just see that he simply knows how to exploit the cars handling qualities over the changing surface. He knows where the grip is and he knows how to maximise the cars traction. Its pure arse, feet and arms feel.

Re: Colin McRae
Words properly wont ever make sense of how I felt walking to School on this day 4 years ago... hell I didnt want to go as I wanted to be glued to the news channels for a sign of hope... but there never going to be any.
I had been playing Dirt most of the weekend, loved it. The fact the name McRae was on it made it all the more special to every motorsport loving Scotsman. The video game I guess, made me at least feel Colin was immortal, specially after all the years of rallying and huge crashes, he had won a championship, pushing flat out at every corner.. yet he was still around.
Colin McRae did for the WRC and Rallying in general, what Ali did for Boxing. I truely feel that without Colin, the WRC would'nt be as big as it is today. Yes he crashed alot in the early years but he just wanted to go as fast as he could round a corner and who can forget that fightback in 1995 after his team mate got hurt mid season, or even that roll in the X-Games.. Classic McRae.
A hero of mine and to millions of rally/motorsport fans around the world.
Id also like to mention his son Johnny. This wee laddie was going to be a future champion, loved anything with a engine and had even done some some karting.
RIP Colin & Johnny McRae, Gone be never forgotten
"If in doubt, flat out"

Re: Colin McRae
That Ford Focus was just such a great car. I wish the WRC cars still had road style trim, it just made them look even more mental when they were going absolutely sideways.
Colin's '95 Impreza is currently in the Ruverside Museum here in Glasgow, it really is a sight to behold!
