TORA Driver's Association? Empty TORA Driver's Association?

Post by nickyf1 Sun 30 Oct 2011 - 13:31

I was discussing this a few weeks back with another member, as a sort of jokey type thing, but in the wake of 'lapses' in driving standards, I've been thinking about it, and it might just be beneficial to TORA to have some sort of organised group of non-staff with either a nominated head or a driver ''rota'' that gathers any issues, complaints or suggestions from non-staff members, and reports them to the staff, who can act upon these suggestions in which ever way they think is fitting. The possible benefits of this I can see:

- More organised and civil way to complain about racing matters.
- May encourage more respect on track if drivers are united and talk regularly about racing matters.
- May lead to fairer rule changes and help to keep the stewards inquiries as consistent and as fair as possible.
- Gives one unanimous driver opinion, rather than a loose bundle of outbursts.

If we have something like this in place, it might keep people from saying stupid things on the forums. What does everyone else think? Is this sort of thing useful? Is it unnecessary? Would it improve things?

So kinda like a FOTA then but for drivers instead of teams? I think its a great idea, because as you say, we get a load of drivers all going into one big argument whereas with this, we can just all get together, decide whats right and whats wrong and then report it to the staff.

Any more support for this? It would certainly have its benefits for TORA as a whole.

After the most recent troubles, I'm defernately in support of this. If you're gonna need a leader, there needs to be a voting process I think so that the most suitable candidate is elected. I would like to add myself to the nominations of leading the TDA (TORA Drivers Association).

I like the sound of this, as i'm not racing any more from when i've seen and heard about different incidents i've had a different outlook on racing incidents being able to see it from both points of view so i think this would be a great idea!

If this was going ahead, I would back it all the way! In the case of giving a penalty, its great from another opinion, a drivers view (I know the likes of Duncan and that are drivers but someone from the community).

I think that the current stewarding process is fine the way it is without people butting in. All of the race stewards are both racers and very experienced with making decisions.

The purpose of the TDA would be to channel suggestions and complaints through a head representative(s) who would report these to a member of staff.

TDA members would send the head representative(s) messages throughout the week, which would range from seeking clarification with regards to ruling, or perhaps suggestions/complaints about rules/racing in that week.

Then the TDA would have to make some sort of unanimous decision on what is appropriate to report to staff.

It's a concept that's up for discussion and exploration, with all the chaos on track recently and recent stewards inquiries, I thought this might be a good way to deal with the issue. Obviously the current system isn't working too well..

Nicky you ain't answered my question?

You will notice a few changes in the stewarding but I am hoping we never have to implement anything as the driving will improve.

Altho as for queues etc that is what we are here for.

If anyone has any questions feel free to come to me, or any other member of staff and we will happily help Smile

I agree. I think all TORA members should be allowed to be part of the TDA, and Richy should be head representa...
