Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Lap times anybody?
I am stuck @ 1:21/22 but know there has to be some 1:19/20s out there somewhere.

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Unfortunately i havent had the practice that i was hoping for as i havent been too well this week, usually i could run laps around Road America until the fingers bleed. I have probably done around 10 - 12 laps so far, had a couple in the late 2:19's, and hopefully in a 25 lap race, once in the groove, should be around that mark this evening.
The Dodge Charger Daytona does sound good though, one of those cars that makes you realize how much Turtle Beach headphones were a worthwhile investment.

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
I have decided to use a car that I used to race on the short tracks of Southern California with success... 1970 Chevelle. Now I am hitting the 2:20s and can sniff a 2:19.
Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Thanks to all who showed up. It was a helluva good time
My bad for not knowing I was up against an ISCC session and wish I had ran it an hour later.
Late entry XBR IMMORTAL made the best of his comeback from hiatus with a dominant run in his (questionably legal) El Camino over ATG Wheelwash's Daytona Charger with fellow late entry Wske Tango rounding out the podium in his Plymouth GTX.
I hope to run another of these Classic NASCAR 100 mile events before the end of summer, but next time there will be no Caminos

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Not gonna lie, it felt good to race again with TORA without ANY lag. I'm abit annoyed I once again put handling over accel for my setup.
On another note, I have picked up a wireless steering wheel for future races. Let's see how much better this will be..

Simple. One reason is NASCAR never raced El Caminos. The other is that you proved it to be too good.
Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
mikey remember its not always the car but in last nights race it proved that handling is an optional extra

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
I know that, but the Camino wasn't on the car list to begin with. I let it slide to get you in on short notice as you had one ready to go.
Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
mikey its understandable the camino was a spur of the moment thing but for the next one ill have a little something for you that should be right up your street

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
My one hundredth post on the TORA, and its a report and pretty pictures celebrating the Firecracker 100 that was run on the 4th of July, and you all think this is thrown together. Yes, folks to celebrate the fact that the Americans kicked our bottoms back in the 18th century and signed the Declaration Of Independance back in 1776, they now eat lots of barbeque, while drinking beer before ending the evening with fireworks. We have a very similar thing in Scotland, its called 'the one day of summer', where we drink lots of Buckfast on the one day in the year that its above freezing, once sunburnt and being fifty shades of red, we would be requiring food, we set fire to something, usually a Toyota Corolla and throw burgers on it, burnt on the outside, raw in the middle of course and still tastier that Gok Wan and his Activia Yoghuts. The firework of course coming at the end of the night, where walking and talking is now a function we are unable to perform, but pulling a wee lassie for a snog in the nightclub car park, yep thats somehow an impossible task worth celebrating.
Nine cars in attendance, the unfortunate clash with ISCC qualifying restricting the numbers, a variety of material on show, the Dodge Charger Daytona being a popular selection with three in total including a Go Daddy Danica Special which just felt so wrong on so many levels, but strangely seemed to work somehow and in true Danica media frenzy, the lobby set up saw the Go Daddy Daytona in Pole Position for the race. Amongst the other cars, a Nascar favourite in the El Camino?? for XBR Immortal, WskeTango in yet another Plymouth GTX, unfortunately the paint didnt load as it flashed past everyone in the opening lap of the race. Flyin Mikey J was SS Chevelle powered, a '65 Pontiac GTO in a rather lovely Jeff Burton Caterpillar scheme, v Hurricane v in a gorgeous looking Oldsmobile and a 1962 Lincoln Continental for Standaman94. which is my new screensaver as it simply looked the business, and well it was either that or waking up next to a horses head this morning.
The race saw a reverse PI start, which unfortunately meant the Lincoln was at the very back of the grid, the El Camino had one huge plus point, it was a bit rapid under acceleration, although unfortunately Flyin Mikey J found out the hard way as the El camino's attempt turned the #14 Chevelle sideways by the pit exit. V Hurricane V's Oldmobile led the opening lap, before the Plymouth of Wsketango took over the pace making duties. SCR3WUGUYZ and myself went side by side in a superb early duel over the opening lap or two, Zeta0085 had a slight off track excursion in the Craftmans Tools Daytona, which in Petty Blue was very apt for the occasion.
A few laps in and it soon came apparant that the El Camino had that extra bit of class, certainly using the straight bit of Wisconsin's finest to full advantage, and eventyually landing a lap time in the 2:17's,more than a full second faster than myself who finished second, with a fastest lap of a 2:19:172, WskeTango taking the final spot on the podium in the Plymouth GTX, of which i think he has a huge secret stash of in Mudbone Racing as he does love that car (its the third appearance i have seen him in one alone).
All in all, a fantastic bit of entertainment for a 4th July evening (for us in the UK and Europe obviously), the perfect soundtrack in the magic of the V8 muscle. Congratulations to XBR Immortal on the win and thank you Flyin Mikey J for organising a slick operation. I have sixteen photos up on the Wheelwash Racing & Media Facebook Page and various small posters loitering about the various places. A big thank you to all the drivers, the paints for the occasion looked fantastic, proabaly why the photo count went so high in the end, i just kept clicking away.

Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Great shots as always Wheelwash and that opening paragraph is one of the funniest things I've ever read.
Re: 4th of July: Firecracker 100
Thank You Wheelwash for the kind words in that excellent (as always) write-up. Great pics too... again as always
