TORA 12 Hours of Sebring - Driver Briefing and Track Limits
TORA Presents the 12 Hours of Sebring
Welcome to the 2018 TORA 12 Hours of Sebring! Sebring is one of the most famous tracks in North America. Endurance races have been taking place at Sebring since 1952. The track was famously built on part of a WW2 air training base, with large sections of the track being formed from the concrete runway. The original idea for turning the airbase into a racing circuit came from two racers, Sam Collier and Bob Gegen, when they saw the circuit from the air and decided to look at it more closely. After Collier died during a race at Watkins Glen a year later, it was thought that the idea would have died with him. However, he had been sharing his idea with his fellow racers, and Alec Ulmann, inspired by a trip to Le Mans, got the project off the ground. The first race at Sebring was held on New Year's Eve Day 1950, with the Sam Collier Six Hours Memorial. Needless to say the rest is history.
Qualifying - This will be the typical 1-Hour Endurance Qualifying. Drivers will have 45 minutes to set their fastest clean lap. We will be adding the best qualifying results from each team, so remember that more than one driver has to take part in qualifying. To sign up for qualifying, please use THE QUALIFYING THREAD. Remember that drivers should be/appear online 15 minutes prior to qualifying start, and should keep in-lobby chat to a minimal.
Race - This is a 12 hour Endurance race. Drivers will be competing in 6 stints of two hours each. However, drivers are reminded that the stint actually only lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes. Drivers are reminded that they are to use THE STINT THREAD to assign stints to each of their drivers. Drivers are expected to be familiar with the rules and regulations come race time, so please review them before March 10th.
Pit Stops - There are 2 required pit stops for the GT cars and no required stops for the Prototypes. Remember that drivers will not be permitted to drive on the track (and/or grass) back to the pit entrance once they pass it. If they miss the pit entrance, drivers will have to drive around the track again to get back to the pit entrance.
Stint Starting Procedures - Stint 1 will start with a typical 80 mph 2x2 Rolling Start. Stint 2 thru 6 will be a single file start, starting as cars cross under the Chevrolet bridge as shown below. Remember that drivers are not to accelerate to race pace once THEY pass the designated start point.
If anyone has further questions, please post them in this thread. Good luck, and I will see you all on track.

Sebring Track Lmits
For this race, we are making clarifications as to track limits at specific sections of the track. If it is not specified, 2 wheels MUST remain on track at all times, designated by the lines on the outside of the track.
For Turn One, drivers are allowed to use the track the whole way up to the inside wall.
However, drivers are reminded that they must still exit Turn One cleanly.
This is not acceptable:
For the exit of the Hairpin Turn, drivers will be allowed to drop the tires in the grass coming out of the hairpin as shown below. However, they must keep at least 2 tires on the kerbing.
This is acceptable:
This is not acceptable (even if it is Forza-clean):
Throughout the "airport section" (between Tower Turn and the end of the lap) drivers are remained that 2 wheels must remain on track at all times. The following is NOT acceptable.
Bishop Bend Apex:
Gendebien Bend 2 Apexes:
Le Mans Curve
For Le Mans Curve, we are allowing drivers a little ley-way. When entering the corner, drivers are to respect track limits and keep two tires on the right the white line. The following is acceptable.
At the apex of the turn, drivers are allowed to drop the tires off the kerbing as shown below. However, they must keep at least 2 tires on the kerbing.
When exiting the Le Mans Curve, drivers are allowed to use the entire kerbing. Again, they must keep at least 2 tires on the kerbing.
Sunset Curve
For Sunset, drivers are allowed to use the track the whole way up to the inside wall.
However, drivers are to respect track limits mid corner, and keep two tires on the right the white line. The following is acceptable.
When exiting Sunset, drivers are allowed to use the track the whole way up to the outside wall.
Finally, drivers are reminded that they must follow the pit exit the whole way to the end of the pit lane, marked by the cones.
I hope this clears everything up for everyone!
