On second viewing... that DHL board seemed to take a fraction of the cars kinetic energy away. If he hadn't hit that he would have been in the catch fencing in a Mike Conway type crash..

That was an awful crash, you can't blame anyone for it in particular, but it really shows the danger of having cars running 3-4 seconds off the pace.
