WRC 2010
Very interesting things here.. You can compare your times with the actual rally in REAL TIME thanks to new technology (Also used in Simbin's RTR which is at Beta stage, although this kind of technology is much better suited to rallying than circuit racing imo) and have LIVE footage from the WRC on yer xbox... hmm

This technology is much more suited to Rallying though, because you cant race with the real guys, and nothing will happen when you crash into them

Some of the gameplay video's I saw did not leave me that impressed... Hopefully by the time the game comes out it will be much improved..

Re: WRC 2010
The gameplay in the featurette is a development build where they are testing/monitoring physics etc - a long way from the finished product.
Re: WRC 2010
Some of the E3 gameplay looked very poor. I do understand that its an unfinnished product... but cars shouldnt handle on Tarmac like they did in the videos.
I hope they fix this as they have said they will begin to work more closely with physics using force feedback wheels. But the stages look far too wide to be realistic, none of the stages are based on real stages and they all have rediculous scenery (one of the mexican stages has Aztec pyramids everywhere, something that doesn't feature in the real rally)
I'm still happy playing Richard Burns Rally and waiting for Codemasters next Dirt game which will have a larger focus on traditional rallying.

Re: WRC 2010
I also don't see why it is not possible to actually go out to the stages, do some research and try to recreate the real stages, even if it is just a section of the real stage (Richard Burns Rally uses shorter sections of real stages from real rallies, The Pirelli International in the North of England for example, The Arctic Lapland Rally in Finland, Rallye Mont Blanc in France, Rally Hokkaido in Japan to name a few).
All of these stages in RBR have great depth to them too, the colours and textures just look right and RBR is the only Rally game I can think of which uses good GTR2/iRacing/whatever standard physics and puts it onto Gravel, the result is a very immersive experience which puts across just how difficult it is to drive a 300+ hp, 4wd rally car on gravel through a tight forest.
The original Dirt got its stages right also, IIRC, Dirt actually used some real roads too, using real roads from the Kielder forest in the North of England for example. The result is always going to be stages with real depth and character that have an immersive and realistic feel, even in Dirt, dispite its arcadey handling.
I would love to see Simbin have a go at an IRC sim using their connections with Eurosport so we can all drive on the Col du Torini

Re: WRC 2010
I want DICE to use their Frostbite engine (which does all the destruction physics in the recent Battlefield games) to build a new Rallisport Challenge game - their damage modelling in RSC2 on the first xbox was way ahead of its time.
You've gotta love the way the car sheds parts in a proper centrifugal way!

Destruction 2.0 in a Rally game... I like the sound of that
Squad based multiplayer Rallying? That would be awsome

A video which shows the extent of RBR's realism quite well i think

Re: WRC 2010
I know how unlikely it is but I'd LOVE to see some 2008/09 cars in there aswell, mainly for Duval's eErmany 2008 car, one of my favourite liveries on the Focus.

Looking great to me, it's no Richard Burns or Rallisport (from one extreme to another) but it looks scary at high speed and that's what it's all about imho.
Roads are too wide tho.

Re: WRC 2010
that Jordan stage looks alright. Looks much better than the Portuguese stage.
I really need a cheap DFP or something though so I can play RBR..

Re: WRC 2010
Downloaded the demo, gave both cars and both stages a wee whirl. Basically, you load it up, and it gives you three difficulty options to choose from. I went for option 3, Proffesional. So then I picked the Ford Focus and went on Jordan. Game loads up and the car model looks beautiful. The stages themselves look a little rough for Xbox360 standards though. So with option 3, I have to select first gear on the line (it automatically put a manual transmission on with option 3) and away I go straight into a 4 left. Straight away you can feel the lack of traction on the dirt. The FFB seems a little weak however. But you do feel the front of the car drift out, so it takes a bit of effort to bring the rear round, which is good! Once you get the rear round, its a case of getting on the throttle carefully, and accurately modulating the throttle and some carefull steering to get the car round the corner. Its very easy to lock a front tyre up under braking and drift out wide. This is a very realistic element of the game that makes it feel slightly like RBR in some areas.
Its a difficult game, and s rewarding to string a stage together. I love it!

Re: WRC 2010
Would be interetsing to know what build this is. The version OXM tested was said to be lightyears ahead of the first one they'd tried. I doubt the demo will be the fina build, but even then it's a very good loking first attempt from Black Bean. SBK has taken three games to get REALLY god and even then there's aspects that can be built on.
WRC has a strong foundation to build on by the looks of it.
