Re: E3 2010
Some extra GT5 info
* Polyphony Digital is working on reducing load times and is still tweaking graphics ahead of the November release date.
* The game has nearly filled all of the space available on Blu-Ray disc.
* You’ll have the option to synchronize the game’s time of day with the track’s current local time.
* The crowds will be dynamic, so there will be more tents, cars, and motorhomes at longer races.
* Yamauchi admits his team may have “actually gone too far in modeling some of this detail” and suggested it might be “more suited to the next generation of PlayStation.”
* Both high and low-beam headlights will be included, so you can flash slower cars as you’re about to pass them. All lights will illuminate dirt, smoke, or other debris in the air.
* NASCAR insisted that all of their series’ cars be playable on all circuits in the game.
* It was previously mentioned that only 9 NASCAR cars will be included, but this was incorrect. There are simply 9 cars in the E3 2010 demo, but “many more” are coming.
* With the exception of profanity, all of the Nurburgring’s graffiti has been re-created, just as it is in real life. According to Kotaku, they will attempt to keep the graffiti up-to-date before the game is shipped.
* Players will be able to maintain an online profile to share and watch friend’s progress and statistics.
* All cars (including standard models) will accumulate dirt and will have functional horns.
* All cars will have functioning reverse lights.
* More information will be revealed at Gamescom in Germany on August 18-22.
* More Formula 1 teams will bring their cars to the game, in addition to Ferrari.

Didn't see the one that says
*A full livery editor is included in the game to customise your cars.
That's still a big feature Forza has over it, but I am being drawn to it. Gonna start saving for a new PS3 I think.

Re: E3 2010
Some VERY neat effects in this. One thing very few sims get right when they do rallying or wet wheather is the way dust or spray will hang in the air and not simply dissipate a preset distance after the car. WRC seems to have this right, plus they way the cars are interacting with other debris like leaves is pretty nice too.
Got a good feeling about this one
I know what you mean Scot, I don't think it'll ever be a feature of GT because of the way the manufacturers view the game.
Re: E3 2010
The only worrying thing about the WRC video is the lack of wheels being used.... I really hope it doesnt turn out like superstars V8 next challenge with its horrible feeling on the wheel and massive un-adjustable dead zones.
And I hope they make it with 4 points of contact with the road rather than the single pivot point that Superstars uses.

I would have thought so mate, seeing as Ken Block will probably be included, that should appeal to the American market!

Re: E3 2010
Hope the WRC game is a good'un, I like Dirt and all, but it's lost its way from the origins of the Colin McRae Rally series. That set the bar. I remember Evolution Studios WRC games for the PS2 being decent, but CMR was the pinnacle.
I think Turn 10 has developed a keen enough rapport with the motor industry that they take as much notice of Forza as a marketing opportunity as they do Gran Turismo, and they allow it there, I just think it's an avenue that Polyphony are reluctant to explore. Look at how many incarnations of the game before they finally introduce damage as a feature, and that will only affect race cars from what I have heard.
I love the GT series. I started with a Japanese copy of GT before its official Euro release, then my boss at Electronics Boutique got me one of the first copies of the game in the UK before release, and I played it to death. GT2 was great but I always felt it lacked something, perhaps the fact GT2 was just an expanded GT. GT3 was a big disappointment, it never felt finished. But GT4 was the daddy. GT4 was the ultimate driving game, and it got me hooked again on racing games. I played it non-stop up until I was working one day in Game, and a new racing game was released for the Xbox. I bought a copy, thinking I would play it for a few days then return it.
But once Forza Motorsport was in the drive, I never played GT4 again. Forza had the customisation of the NFS Underground series coupled with the racing realism of Gran Turismo. Replicating BTCC cars with Forza's livery editor (200 layers a side anyone?) kept me going for hours, and the racing was sublime.
If GT5 can deliver that to me, I will buy it and a PS3 day of release (and face the consequences from the missus later). But I know in my heart it won't. I've been playing GT PSP again recently, reminiscing of the good ol' GT4 days, but it has reminded me of as much that I detest about the GT series as I love.
It's been great belting round Deep Forest, Trial Mountain, Grand Valley and Autumn Ring in a silver Mitsubishi Evo VI, or taking on El Capitan and Costa di Amalfi in a red Alfa Romeo GT, but bouncing off walls and opponents to make turns without consequence, not being able to tinker with the tuning to the extent I am used to, and knowing that even though the game boasts 960 different cars most of them will be the same model with trim or engine differences - there's 50 Skylines and 20 Imprezas in the PSP game. Finally, that silver Evo or red Alfa I am driving has nothing to differentiate it from the silver Evo or red Alfa someone else could drive.
As such, I'm afraid as good as GT5 looks, and as good as I am sure it will be, it will not deliver the experience that Forza gives me.

Re: E3 2010
One of the things I love about Polyphony and Gran Turismo is the pure brand power and quality product they produce. In many ways they are much like Apple. I remember putting GT4 in for the first time and getting that same ''ooooooohhh'' feeling from the in game menu's, music and intro video as I got the first time I used an ipod touch. Its that sense of true quality that actually lasts! Gran Turismo 4 still feels quality to me today in the same way that my three year old iPod nano does and this is where I feel Forza falls short. When we all got Forza 3 it was the best thing ever. Now I just need some kind of refresh to get me properly back into it.
This quality feel is important, Gran Turismo has it just right, Turn 10 looked promising with Forza 3.. but... it remains to be seen if they can actually build up the same level of prestige for ''Forza Motorsport'' that ''Gran Turismo'' has for the average joe.
As for the WRC game, I want it to be really good because I am just crying out for a rally sim! However the pinnacle of rally sims is Richard Burns Rally, and I don't believe that will be beaten for a long time.
As for F1 2010.... Georgous! And they have worked hard to capture the brutal feel of such a car, and for me, this isn't PC sim racing, this is console racing, its all about the sounds, the look and the excitement for me when it comes to anything that isn't made by Simbin As long as the handing is believable or difficult I am fine with that, it just needs to be a good all round driving experience for me, and F1 2010 can certainly deliver.
Test Drive Unlimited 2, one of the most relaxing games out there! Its the only true ''Driving'' sim out there, you can easily enjoy picking your favourite car, putting some tunes on the iPod and take a nice drive through the moutains in an xbox live party chatting about all kinds of things while enjoying the view. THAT is what TDU is all about and TDU2 should definetally deliver, I can't wait to return to Oahu later this year
These are all console games, and all I want from them is something I can really get stuck into and enjoy looking at great visuals and appreciating veiws, enjoy listening to the awsome sound of the internal combustion engine and just talking to mates while driving cars I might never be able to drive in my time on this wonderfull little planet we live on

Gran Turismo goes hand-in-hand with the whole ethos of PlayStation.
Style over substance.
