I love Brands Hatch but you have to admit it's getting out of hands...so many massive crashes and even deaths over the years
Re: Van der Drift recieves multiple injuries in a horrific accident at Brands
That's unbelieveable.
I know what you're saying Monkey but this sort of thing happens at different circuits too. Look at some of the huge GP2 crashes at somewhere as 'boring' as Magny Cours. Let's not get onto whats happened at Monza over the years. At least no marshals have ever died at Brands.
Fact is of course, once a car gets airborne, that's it. It can be the safest track in the world but a car in the air can do anything and go anywhere!

Exactly. The drivers take these risks, theres nothing much the tracks themselves can do.
The tracks take care of the spectators, the cars take care of the drivers, and here we can see that both have done their job well.

I certainly like Brands Hatch better than most of the modern oversafe and soul_less tracks but again...that Seat a few weeks ago...Surtees last year and crazy stuff before...even Bathurst doesn't have that kind of history.
It's a man's track that's for sure.

The Surtees accident was a complete freak. Ok so a similar thing happened to Massa the week after but that was down to the nature of the cars more than the circuit.

As I have said, tracks should have spectator safety as their focus, keeping the spectators away from places where cars could go off. They can also contribute to driver safety with the perimiter of the racing surface, but thats about it. Majority of driver safety comes from the manufacturer of the car and the saftey equipment that comes with the series.
All tracks are different, they all have different sections, they are all unique. If people start blaming the tracks.. Well.. tell me what the perfect situation for a race actually is. Tracks will always be like this, these things happen. These guys drive around at 150+ mph inbetween each other with nothing but gravity and friction at the drivers disposal to not hit each other and be the fastest and win the race. These things WILL happen. In order to facilitate for this ''margin of error'' tracks' responsibility is to keep the spectators away from any dangerous areas. In order to limit injury and fatality in the accident itself, any structure which is directly involved in the accident must be made in such a way that it prevents a driver from being killed.
Blaming tracks and blaming cars could, if you let it, extrapolate fowards to the simple conclusion that ''motorsport must be outlawed''. Which is why people should consider motorsport as a whole before blaming the tracks.
It says it on the back of your ticket - ''Motorsport is Dangerous''
