Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
Wow! It sounds brilliant! Shift 1 has excellent road feel, but the sliding does let it down.
Man, I can't wait now! Shame about the lack of a demo though I'm a cheap arse.

For those not familiar with Enna Pergusa, its basically an oval round a lake with some chicanes that will make you brick it inbetween the ''straights''

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I like the sound of this. Taken from http://news.carrentals.co.uk/eas-shift-2-gets-pushed-back-34239585.html
But its the main bit in a short release about the release delay.
"The developer of this game, Slightly Mad Studios, has already announced that this game will feature the new car, Pagani Huayra. Reports show that this is a car that can supposedly do over 230mph. Thus, it is safe to say that this is one car that people can’t wait to get their hands on. After all, who does not want to play with a car that has over 700 horsepower.
The founder of Pagani Automobili S.p.A, Horacio Pagani, said that for the past seven years, the designing of the Huayra has been a labor of love. He went on to say that he is very ecstatic to be working with the entire Need for Speed team to help share this creation with the whole world.
However, Horacio did not stop there. He went on to say that he is simply amazed at how accurately they have been able to capture, not only the look, but the feel of the car as well. Shift 2 will give car enthusiasts all over the world the opportunity to get behind the wheel of this amazing car."

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I asked about the servers and this is what I got from them. "There are no server issues with NFSHP".
Well there aren't any with Battlefield now either but it took 3 months to get those fixed. *sigh*

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
So I responded back and said I know it works now but so does Battlefield but it took 3 months to get that fixed. "Good job side stepping the question pretty well there with Hot Pursuit".
Next question I asked: "So is Shift 2 going to have a more stable server? Game sounds and looks great."
Answer from NFS: "Online play is a major focus of SHIFT2, and is driven through Autolog, so things will be improved over SHIFT"
Sounds somewhat promising, though they never answered in full. Just half answers, they would great politicians!!

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
What do you want them to say? By the way, I never had any issue with the Battlefield servers from day 1. I believe Duncan will attest to that also, seeing as he was standing beside my bullet-riddled corpse at the time, screaming/laughing....
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I want them to say that it isn't an issue and they will make sure it runs right. It has been for every single EA game I've bought on or around launch day.
Bad Company 2 kept crashing.
From March
http://bit.ly/ggrU9j
From April
http://bit.ly/eqkxFI
I found these going on until Mid-May for BFBC2. I don't feel like going through and finding every article for every game but it happens to every single one. Not to mention they've lowered the price and will not release a demo for beta testing. I can't remember the last popular EA title without a demo. This just flags that there are major issues, EA generally only cares about making a game look flashy to keep you buying it. They don't care about how it plays. I'd rather play a game that plays good and suffers a bit on looks than the opposite.

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
My apologies, but you are aware of the difference between a publisher and a developer aren't you?!?
EA does not make these games or run their servers. The developers do that.
Battlefield = DICE
Madden = Tiburon
Medal of Honor = Danger Close (DICE for multiplayer development)
Shift 2 = Slightly Mad Studios

on the:

I agree in the main and still LOVE playing and racing on Race Pro. But that to had many many issues on release. But I LOVE it still now. Plus SHIFT 1 had many issues, but there were several patches to address some of the bad feelings, they didn't just abandon the gamers that paid for it. I REALLY enjoy playing SHIFT 1 now and it feels more immersive that FM3 has ever managed to convey for me.
I am still very much looking forward to SHIFT 2. Yes, I do exxpect bugs and issues, but to be honest, experience has tought me this is the same for the majority of releases nowadays. And the ones I won't touch are the Game series that have had little or no support or fixes to sort them out. SHIFT has come good, and expect SHIFT 2 to do the same if needs be.
I do think, in light if this all, the games industry is due a major kick up the arse by multiple lawsuits from a large unhappy group of ripped off gamers / customers. That should happen soon and reshape the industry quite a lot.

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
Unfortunately the developers are often caught between a rock and a hard place. When we were developing for PS3, SCEE set our target release date and we had to meet it. It's crazy, but it's true. You'd think that the developers would release the game when it's finished/ready, but often they have to release it when they're told to. This is happening a lot in the movie industry lately as well. If you look at the release schedule, there's a bunch of movies on there that haven't even started filming yet!
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
Which is why I blame EA. It's already been mentioned by Magic that EA screwed up the first SHIFT game. They have progressively gotten worse and worse. It's also why I'm very, very excited about FM4 but at the same time extremely skeptical of Microsoft screwing it up.
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I think you should be more concerned with Turn 10 screwing it up with their unique idea of what we the players want (without asking us what we want....or listening to what we say when they ask - having already started the project heading down their own route anyway - because they can then say "we asked the community what they wanted....").
Case in point; "More cars = more variety/fun to be had"
WRONG
Longevity in a racing game comes from more CIRCUITS. Running a different car around the same old circuit doesn't add enough variety to keep away the boredom factor.
I can't believe NurGP is the only DLC track for FM3. I'm well aware that adding cars is a heck of a lot cheaper and easier for Turn 10 to do, but if they want to kick all other driving games' butts, all they need to do is have a regular track pack DLC....I mean, I've bought all the DLC car packs, sure, but I haven't bought half of the cars in them - probably only one or two from each. Who here has bought a Mitsubishi Colt, or Fiat Punto Grande, or Spada Codatronca, or Bertone Mantide?

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I own the Colt!!! Had it 18th on Rally forward and 30th on reverse until the stupid 550 came out. The tracks cost money, yes, but what you missed is adding cars is likely profitable. How many packs was there an absolutely useless Mercedes in? They get paid to put these cars in the game.
I also want more tracks but I loved the car packs coming out once a month. It kept me involved and ready for what was next. I also think your incorrect about the servers. I know T10 doesn't run the servers, it's Microsoft Game Studios. Same for CoD, they are Activision servers not Infinity Ward or Treyarchs.
Now back on topic, I think everything that SHIFT2 has shown is great and I'm looking forward to it but at the same time I'm not going to jump the gun and say it's great.
