Mate, that's Auchinleck and Cumnock! Two of the roughest places in Scotland, which is really, really saying a lot.

There's big signs there when you drive in telling you to lock your doors, roll up your windows and not to feed the animals. I remember once I was walking through Cumnock in the middle of summer and thought I saw a robin. Turned out to be a sparrow that had been stabbed.

I work alongside a lot of people from those areas. Most of them are genuine decent people, but as rough as the surface of Mars. That story does not surprise me in the slightest.

All these little towns scattered about are quite mental. There are plenty of ''hotspots'' in Glasgow though. The Number 7 bus cuts through an area called ''The Circus'', basically a D-tour the buss takes before coming back onto the main road. The trick is to wait at the bus stop after the Circus, to avoid being slashed by glass or knives

But as you say, a lot of people are decent, but you wouldn't want to mess with them.
