Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Do I see a Mercedes W01 style blade/double airbox design there? I thought they were banned..

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Is it a Lotus? Is it a Renault? Is it a Lada?
Plenty of Mexican money in Sauber then?
The sidepod inlets on the Sauber are very high up, similar to the old Lola Champcar. The Renault seems a bit of a departure from previous seasons cars.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Most teams had those last year to be fair. The lack of V-Noses is very prominent though.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
I'm looking at F1 in a different light this year, I don't know what it is, but for the first time in years, F1 feels like F1 again... Not sure what that means

pictures of Renault's extremely different and radical exhaust system!
Plus on twitter today they've said they have the best sounding car in the pitlane because of this system which is always good

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Whats the whole motive behind this then? Extra downforce on the front of the sidepods? It just looks like a blown exhaust style system to me.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
I may have to recind my 'meh' comment about the nature of some of the cars. I really did feel there was very little innovation in alot of the designs but when you look in closer you do start to see things.
The Ferrari is really the only properly 'conventional' design out there that I don't think seems to move the game on enough. I know the front wing is the old one and that will no doubt change before too long but the whole car just doesn't wow me.
The Mercedes is impressive, the high nose shares aspects with the Sauber and has a really flat top and narrow section. The sidepods are cut back really tight and clearly is still using the blown diff concept, though the packaging of the exhausts is a little strange.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Intresting times so far this morning, Ferrari out on pace....Some drivers finding it dificult to get used to rear wing (but note they can only use it when transponders in cars register that they are near enough a car in front on the straight so they get better staright line speed by pushing a button, once button realses it raises the rear wing back).....
So with this in mind bump drafting for team mates in qualifying lol
