Rfactor test session Empty Rfactor test session

Post by ckBrenneke Mon 14 Mar 2011 - 23:33

Tuesday 15th at 8pm I will be hosting an rFactor test session. Anyone who wants to join is welcome, but they must ensure they are ready.

We will be running UK based tracks. You can find them on this track pack - http://www.gamefront.com/files/14470657/BTCC%20Track%20pack.7z

We will be running the Escort RS1600i from the Touring Car Legends mod. You can get that from here - http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Touring%20Car%20Legends

Finally, connection issues are rife in rFactor. You MUST open the required ports for the game to allow you to connect to the host. These ports are listed here - http://findports.com/document.php?tag=rfactor You should also open TCP 6565. A guide on how to do this is available from this site - http://portforward.com/

In order to connect, you will need to go to the JOIN screen, then click the blue box to enter the IP address of the host. I will post this tomorrow prior to 8pm.

Each race will consist of a 20 minute practice session, followed by 10 minutes qualifying and then a 10 lap race. You will have the 20 minutes practice to connect to the game. If we have a shortfall in players, AI will be used to make up the pack.

Once the session starts, it is entirely up to you to connect to it. I have given you the tools and links to make sure you are ready, so once I start the session, you can try and connect. This will be a learning experience for us, so if there are hiccups, please remember we've not got answers, as we are working it out as we go along too.

I'm up for this for sure! I've been practicing on the VOR LMS setup.

What control methods are people using? I'm on an xbox pad running through a USB Microsoft Wireless Interface. Took a while to set up right, but now it's fantastic.

I'm using my wired 360 pad. I configured it similar to the Forza layout for ease, then played about with the deadzones. I can see the game would seriously suit a wheel better than the pad, but the pad works quite well.

The Escorts are fun, quick without being punishing, Gary and I had a cracking race round Brands Indy with them last night - well, I had a cracking race, Gary spun it twice, once at Clearways, and again coming out of Graham Hill Bend.

Likewise I set my pad up similar to Forza, but the temptation to beep the horn (on cars that have one) and flash the headlights now that they're mapped to buttons that just scream "push me"!!! Twisted Evil

I think I may need to do a fresh installation of the games, as the VOR stuff auto-overwrites your track data etc as they have a system running that makes sure everyone always has the current version and correct tracks/cars.

I think you only need to plug a wired controller in and it finds the drivers. I went for a wireless connection though so I could use my existing pads.

My IP address is 81.155.159.250. I will be hosting from 8pm.

If you get a timing out message when trying to join, you have a port issue and need to follow the advice given in the OP.

Sound all sorted now - so I'm all set for next time! I'm going to look up a few mods which might be worth testing. Off the top of my head there's the obvious ones I mentioned on Skype, but also some tracks like Salzbergring which are awesome and worth looking at.
I'd recommend going Pro on rfactorcentral. You can do it monthly which is just over £3, then cancel it once you've done a crazy Supermarket Sweep style raid on the download section!

VLN 05 requires you to have GTR Evolution installed, which you can purchase here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/8660/

The VLN 09 mod has not yet been released. Here is a link for the 05 mod:

Not sure for that. I'll let you know what my 360 controller settings are next time we're on. Last night I was hooning around Sebring in a BMW M1 Procar and damn it was epically fast, but so hard to control on the bumps! Sounds amazing too!!

We've had some excellent fun with this over the last week, and will be looking to run a few more nights with it while we tie up some loose ends on how it is set up and how to run it.

If I have time, I will probably run a session tonight following the NGTC meeting, at about 10pm. We'll be using the BTCC mod available from this link - http://www.mods.com.ua/?p=800#more-800 - and we'll be visiting Thruxton, which is included in the track pack available on that link.

Will post my IP address for this later tonight.
