Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
lolwut? Is that even technically legal?
EDIT: Isn't that the same car that Indycar was going to use next year?

Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
I think its the same concept as the Indycar proposal that they modified after IRL rejected the idea. And since they are the 56th entry or something, they are basically the wildcard entry that the ACO tries to admit every year. I think the last few years they've been trying to get hybrids onto the grid with that entry slot.
I wonder who is making the 1.6l turbo 4 pot they are going to use. Sounds kind of like a detuned version of what F1 is planning on using come 2013. I doubt its Honda considering that Honda dumped them right before the best chance Highcroft or Honda was going to get to win Le Mans. There's a lot of mention in the press release of "the greatest powers in american motorsport" teaming up for this, so maybe we will see Ford step up to the plate and get their motorsport on.

Ugh, the delta wing is disgusting... I really hope this isn't the future of sports car racing, if it is, then guess ill stop watching
Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
I'd think that any major manufacturers like Audi and Peugeot would stick with racecars that lend themselves to road car technology, or at least I'd hope so.

Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
lol, as weird looking as it is, its not any uglier than the R18 or AMR-One, and if by some miracle Highcroft win with that thing next year I will be the world's happiest person to see a glorified science experiment beat the stupid diesels.

Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
I'd rather see a diesel win then a phallic object on wheels!
I just don't see how they expect it to do any cornering, it has tiny front wheels, and that implies hardly any mechanical grip... And the aero is all generated at the rear, so how is it supposed to turn?
Fair enough that its low drag and that but I can't see it actual working
And what makes it worse is that the team that had the best petrol p1 has now got this abomination

I like the Diesels. Its clearly the best way to power your car.
Think of all that sound that comes from a petrol engine, thats wasted energy. That sound energy is better off used as kinetic energy.

Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
Yea, it doesn't seem like it would have any front grip to me either, but maybe they are doing some creative with the ground effects to fix that.
I don't like the diesels because they sound stupid. If I were the ACO, I would make it a requirement to win the race that your car sounded like it had a 4 rotor in the back. We would run a test where I would stand at Arnage and your car would be at Tetre Rouge and if I couldn't hear your car, then you would be disqualified.

Re: Highcroft's Plans for Le Mans 2012
Haha nice one! I like your thinking Patrick!
Even if they have masses of front down force you need the tyres and mechanical grip to put it on the track, so they'll either need wide tyres or ultra soft tyres!
