Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series

Anyone interested in doing a Grand-Am inspired series? 2 classes: DP (Daytona Prototype) and GT. 1-hour timed races, with an ideal lobby of 6 DPs and 10 GTs.

If there is enough interest we can start ironing out the details here. As an initial attempt I say we run the Mosler as the spec DP, and GT can be based off of the TORA GT rulebook with only cars that currently [2012] compete in Grand-Am allowed (Mazda RX-8, Ferrari 458, Audi R8, BMW M3, Camaro, Mustang, RUF as Porsche, and Viper).

2012 TENATIVE SCHEDULE
1) Sunset Peninsula
2) Sedona
3) Infineon
4) Road America
5) Indianapolis
6) Mazda Raceway
7) Maple Valley

I was thinking the Lola Mazda might've been a good 'DP' choice if it still had the 3-rotor engine swap, but alas, T10 removed that swap. the Mosler might be a good choice. And with the Last-gen RX8 coming Tuesday, most of the GT class is there (outside Porka for obvious reasons)

Well, this is the christmas peroid so expect responses to be a bit... Poor.

Also, the issue you may have is that there are a lot of endurance racing etc @ TORA at the moment, why not see if there is a way this could be a 1 off event etc part of the TORA Endurance Championship.

Can't we use the R390 GT1 car as the DP? Probably a little faster than the real thing, but it'l have more of a race car feel.

I did do a grand am series in the summer, but it flopped

We could. I simply wanted to start a thread and guage the interest level before laying-out concrete rules. To keep it realistic I think using the TORA GT rules works, and keep the DP class in the R2 to low R1 range. Maybe allow the Saleen S7R, Mosler MT900, and the Nissan R390 in the DP class?

I'm also thinking of shortening the races to 45 minutes.

This series doesn't have to happen immediately, let's build the interest first, bc everyone wants a full lobby.
