Welcome to the 2012 TORA MSA GT Championship
The Online Racing Association and GT Omega Racing would like to welcome the community to the 2012 TORA MSA GT Championship, and this season looks already to be a record breaking year. The series has been increased to be the equal longest season yet, with 10 race meetings bringing the total races to 20! This was last done in 2010 when WWR Chillz made an awesome one off season appearance in the Aero Dynamics Lamborghini Gallardo, to take the series by nearly 200 points.
Pre-season testing seems to be proving things are a lot more closer than it was back then, and with many a strong driver that could wrap up the title for the first 2012 season. Thing is, when you think you have seen someone do a really quick time in testing, you think the series is his. Then another driver equals his time, and then another driver beats that time. Drivers lower down the field seem to be making good progress too, with many of the mid to low profile teams doing testing times close to the GT24. This is getting serious.
Returning for 2012 is the current TORA MSA GT Champion F4H MOPAR001, moving from his series winning BMW to another German marque, Audi. The R8 didn’t look to be all that competitive in the unofficial GT24 series, but the Fight 4 Her team have proved once again, that any car can be made competitive with the right pit crew. Another move for this series, is late 2011 hard charger F4H Carrera and renowned rapid driver F4H Bullet are joining the champion, making it a really strong team to beat.
Moving away from the same BMW team as the champion is GLR Insanity, who now also has a full team of fellow club members, in the form of GLRmikem, and GLR Diablo. These guys are also known as being a tough team to get ahead of, and with privateers GLR Gashi and GLR Asteroid being in the same spec Lotus Evora as the main team, you can predict that there’s five brains knocking together to make that Lotus work.
Another team to pick the Audi R8 are the likes of Candymancody, PLOW RUN WIDE and TrooperR6. Don’t let this team fool you into thinking that just as they’re not fellow members of a club, doesn’t mean these guys don’t work together well. Like superglue added to industrial Velcro, this team have been working together on their Audi R8 since TrooperR6 won the GT24 series back in early December. Thing is, he’s not the only guy to look out for in this squad, with Candymancody being a fast runner, and PLOW RUN WIDE. The history of PLOW and TORA go back many years and the PLOW members have always left a huge impact. Pre-season testing has resulted in PLOW RUN WIDE setting high bars for everyone to follow, but will quick lap times be all he needs to get this years crown.
As much as you can guarantee that there will be a Porsche 911 in the 24 Heures Du Mans every year, there is more than a few Aston Martins in the TORA MSA GT season 8, and none other than ATR DAN is back to try and win back the crown which has escaped him for a few years. His Aston Martin Virage had an on and off GT24 season, with Indianapolis showing his strongest performance. Work has continued on the car over the winter and improvements have been made, so look out for ATR DAN hopefully making a strong presence at the front of the field this season!
Another guarantee is the M&M Racing team will racing at full tilt, and with their well known Rizla sponsor back on board since the GT24 season, could this make things lucky for the black and blue SLS. Early showings are that Ianmr will be their strongest driver, with Richy59 and nickyf1 making up the team members.
Many more returning regulars will also be hoping for some competitive racing this year, with WWR Aero bringing his 2010 TORA Team of the Year outfit onto the grid with rapid VVV Magictap and garyp3398 driving the Wiesmann MF GT-5 they piloted in the GT24. CMGraphix brings his STORM team alongside SelectiveRogue and gen3ral ts0 in the Ford GT. Rollin InAn STi brings his now regular Ferrari 458’s to the field
This season will also see’s some TORA Veterans making returns with XTI Nightrider and lfcnicklfc confirming their presence at some races along the season, as well as Pebb, i redbeard, PLOW Berty2d all poking their heads round the TORA door. Just as importantly are the newcomers to the series. TORA has been become overwhelmed with the plethora of new members all showing their interest in TORA racing over the past 6 months, and many of them are scheduled to appear in the upcoming 2012 GT season. Thanks to all who have shown their interest, and do your best to get into those TORA TV videos!
Remember I started with this being a record breaking season for TORA? Going back through the TORA GT history on the archive section of this website, it shows that the most amount of racers in a single TORA GT meeting was 33, which was the Road Atlanta season opener of the 2010 season, followed by 31 at Suzuka in 2009 and a couple of 30’s in the same series. This years season opener at Indianapolis is currently sitting on 37 people confirming their attendance, or possibly being there, and there are still 2 days to go til the green flag drops.
