Welcome to the TEC
The last few pieces of our 2012 program of events are falling into place with the announcement of our TORA Endurance Championship (TEC) due in the coming weeks. This series really captures the essence of endurance racing both in the sense that drivers must manage their car over a much longer distance than normal TORA races but also must work as part of a team, with drivers completing stints in the cars just as in real life.
The TEC is made up of four select events that epitomise the spirit of endurance racing spread across 2012. They will be:
24th March - TEC 12 Hours of Sebring - 6x2 Hour stints - 2pm GMT Start
30th June - TEC 24 Hours of Le Mans - 12x2 Hour stints - 2pm BST Start
15th September - TEC 12 Hours of Silverstone - 6x2 Hour stints - 2pm BST Start
8th December - TEC 24 Laps of the Nurburging - 1x3 Hour stint - 2pm GMT
We have a long history of running full length enduros alongside their real life counterparts. Indeed at the start of the 2010 Sebring 12hrs, there was a fantastic shoutout to the TORA drivers starting the race at the fall of the real green flag in Florida! (See video link below)
We have run a number of successful Le Mans 24 simulations running right back to 2009. The 2011 running was done in aid of the Child's Play charity and a significant sum was raised over the course of the weekend. We have also run Petit Le Mans and the Britcar 500.
For 2012, in order to increase participation we have taken the decision to move the events to adjacent weekends to the real events (excluding the N24) in order to allow fans of those particular events to race. Also for the first time we will be running the usually standalone races as a full championship. While honours will be bestowed on the winners of each event, at the completion of the final race the scores from all four will be added and a final TEC Champion will be announced along with some great prizes.

cool as, im in, ill have to talk to my parents, but ill show them this and say how good it is, and ive wanted to do if for ages now, blah blah blah hahaha, thats if i manage to get xbox live, but im going for a job soon, so i'll be able to
Re: Welcome to the TEC
Im trying to think on how this works, so do a couple of us get together in 1 place and swap the seat every 2 hours (whilst the car in the pits) so the race is continuous for the duration of the event?

Re: Welcome to the TEC
No be a 2 hour race then the next race starts with the next drivers, and must have a start time delay for how far behind but theats the bit I am not sure about
Re: Welcome to the TEC
ah i see so we have say 4 lobbies running and lobby A starts at 2pm then lobby B starts at 4pm etc etc until the max time runs out. is that right. then some white man magic maths sorts out the lap times etc??

Re: Welcome to the TEC
Yea Oz we have 1 lobby, but each race will finish after 2 hours then your team mate will race for a 2 hour stint
Re: Welcome to the TEC
It'll be along the lines of a 2 hour race, racing for 1 h 45 m or so, where the total distance of each team is recorded. Then beginning the second hour the second 2 hour race begins, again for 1 h 45 m and the same is done again. Then the distances for each team are added together. This goes on for the duration of the race until all the distances together are added. Teams can then sort between them who runs each stint, and no single driver can drive for longer than 60% of the total race, if I have that roughly correct?
Re: Welcome to the TEC
that sounds cool, im in for that when it opens, and if anyone wants to team up with me under LHM Racing PM me, but we have a bit of time yet if 24 Mar is the 1st race.

Re: Welcome to the TEC
I always thought that the 1st stint usually has the pace lap(s), then its green til the End of the Stint, then each race stint thereafter is full time-distance (from start to time-up). That's how it was for the 24hr LeMans challenge we ran last year if I remember right.

From what I remember that is pretty much correct. The first stint had parade lap then every following stint had an "easy" start so we didn't crash into each other on the Dunlop chicanes. We ran 8 stints at 3 hours each, and, on each stint we stopped with 5 minutes remaining to record our distance. So, technically we ran 40 minutes shy of a full 24 hours by doing that, but, we did take take longer than expected as the last stint was delayed by about an hour because of shuffle between all of the stints.
Just as a suggestion, would 2.4 hour stints (2 hours and 24 minutes) work better? For Sebring, Le Mans and Silverstone at least. Assuming that we are doing the same thing as last years TORA 24hr of Le Mans, the full race length for each stint could be 2.5hr and we would stop with 6min remaining to record time. The entire event would take longer than the stated time, but, we would be running that full time.
[edit]: Along the same lines, 1.6 hour stints (1 hour and 40 minutes) could be used for Nurburgring.

Re: Welcome to the TEC
I'll detail it properly in the rules, but we will be doing maximum of 2 Hours stints to make it easier on the drivers. We'll be running until 1 hour 50 mins or 55 mins, where we will then stop exactly where we are on the track, record the distances that everyone is sitting at and then return to the lobby where the next lobby - who should be prepared - will go when we return. There will basically be a max of 5/10 min window at the end of each stint where everybody is effectively "doing a driver change"
Re: Welcome to the TEC
The only down point from what we could do in terms of distance in FM3 and FM4, is that in FM3 we could see in as much as hundreths of a mile how far we have travelled, but in FM4, they removed all decimal place mile, so I think it may cause an issue of who might be ahead of who after each stint, if teams finish on the same 'mile' after a couple stints

Re: Welcome to the TEC
We can stop in the positions we are in and the next lobby starts in those positions. We can also take note of the distance between each other and we could go off the line when people are that distance away.
Re: Welcome to the TEC
Sounds awesome, as most of the races start on Friday or Saturday i'll be able to race

Re: Welcome to the TEC
Maybe Le Mans style finishes like we do with the ISCC for each stint so as to record it as time behind the leader as opposed to distance?

No 24 hours of Indy or Sunset to correspond with Daytona?

Re: Welcome to the TEC
We did originally have that at Hockenhiem on the list but we thought that 4 events would be plenty throughout the year, and we can gauge interest for this sweeties from it as well.
Re: Welcome to the TEC
I'm considering Le Mans or Nurburgring.. The big shots Sounds like they'll be hell.
Re: Welcome to the TEC
I enoyed the Sebring race last year, regardless after wrecking my Lola mazda during both of my stints.

Do you have to have a team or can you run it on your own?
