Car Tunes & Setup
Morning everyone.
I am new to the Tora site and have only completed the one race (last night) which i really enjoyed.
However, i am completely useless at creating setups for any cars. I have used spreadsheets from various sources and always the same conclusion that they are pants !
Does anyone have any set rules the take when tuning a car ! like whats a must and whats not! i am trying to work out a setup for both the Lambo (DLC) or the Ferrari 430 for the 12hr sebring race. I just cant workout the best setups !
I notice people race with full downforce, or really soft suspension , or ride set high these all seem to go against real car logic.
SO any pointers would be such a help to improve what i am getting out of Forza as its really frustration.
Thank you

Re: Car Tunes & Setup
I had a forza tune cal but i found about 3 diff ones, which one works becasue i found them very unreliable
Have just watched the video, thank you very much this will be a great start.
If you could say a tuning calc that works that would be great

Re: Car Tunes & Setup
Nic vids from VVV. Just watched his first iRacing race vid as well. Made it look dangerously tempting! :S
Re: Car Tunes & Setup
Keep in mind that one tune won't work for everyone or every track. If I'm running Hockenheim, I use medium high downforce, low ride height and stiff springs. Hockenheim has good straights, is flat, and has good track surface all around. Tight suspension allows the car to be more stable with less body roll and allows it to stay "planted" around high-speed corners.
If I'm on Infineon, I use heavy downforce, with a higher ride height and softer springs. Infineon has lots of elevation changes, several areas were the track transitions from main roadway to secondary (abrupt bumpt) and no real high speed straights.
Anti-Roll bars (sway bars, etc...) should be setup to fit your driving style. There is typically a narrow range that balances the car between understeer and oversteer... regardless of how soft or stiff the bars are. I prefer a slight amount of oversteer in a car. It allows me to turn the nose in with a little off throttle oversteer... Where, if you have too much understeer, the car just keeps going straight.
Using the race transmission when possible introduces another set of challenges... Identifying the best range of gears to allow you to maximize the powerband for top speed on the straights while attempting to reduce the number of midcorner or immediate corner exit gear changes. Personally, I would rather change gears a little more often and be able to have the tranny in a "Sweet Spot" in every corner... it let's you get a good launch coming out of the corners.
This is just a few examples of the thought and items I focus on when setting up a car and is just a few of the involved dynamics and there components. The short of it is, a car that "handles great" for me, may not be good for you. The oversteer may make the car feel unsteady or nervous. Stiff suspension may cause the car to be unsettled when driving a track with elevation changes. And, stiff rollbars may cause the car to lose adhesion quickly when it's not expected.
The only real way to get it right is to spend time lapping different tracks, making small changes as you go... until you find what works for you on that track.
