When to replace your contoller?

I was talking yesterday with Morphader NL about our controllers and to my suprise he said he has already "burned" 5 controllers in the last 5-6 years....
I am playing now 5 years on the xbox and I am playing with my 2nd.....
He also said that when the 4 dots ( is it called like this?) on the left stick are gone that you should replace your controller.
What are your thoughts about that?
When are you replacing it?

both of my controllers have the 4 dots gone away and they still work just fine.

I recently "lost" the 4 dots on both my sticks (I had previously opened up the controller and swapped them around)
So then I went onto ebay and got new sticks for like £1.50. Lot cheaper than a new one!

I don't worry about the dots, but rather the tracking of the controller. When the steering starts to pull towards one side or the other, then its time for a new one.

The only reason I replaced that controller was because I got a new one with my new X360. It works fine, it worked fine, and I could still use it if I wanted to/had to.

Hey Adder, you can also check your stick.. When mine was not working good anymore the left stick was a little off-center..

Well....Maybe it is time for me that I will change that because it will steer slightly to the left.

As long as you can use the controller to good effect I suppose that's all that matters

My Gamecube controller, however (after SEVERAL week's worth of Super Smash Bros over the years) had the top section of the analog stick taken off, so I have to contend with prongs sticking into my thumb :/
