IROC 79 Series Empty IROC 79 Series

Post by Ax4x Mikey J Fri 21 Sep 2012 - 0:53

I am gauging the interest in a new Spec Car Championship based on the 1979 International Race of Champions Series. The cars would be the 1979 Camaro Z28 with a spec build. The build features a 450 HP Small Block Chevrolet engine, Race Tires and Race Brakes for a certain level of drivability, lots of Sport upgrades to limit tuning dependency, and no aero to minimize the ill-effects of damage incurred in close quarters racing.

I have the base tune available on my Storefront, and would like you all to try it out and post some feedback. Depending on the level of support for such a car in a 4-6 race series, mostly on road courses with an oval or two on the schedule, I will then lobby TORA management for a day of the week to race these beasts.

If I am on XBL and you want to toss them around a track or two, send me a PM and we'll set up a lobby. Cool

Here's a sneak peek of what we'd be racing:

IROC 79 Series Iroc_710

I have yet to add TORA logos, and my idea is for your gamertags to go where the "Andretti" text is, which I feel would make for some nice name recognition in all series media.

Hope we can use TCS for this. Tried the car at Infineon NasCar circuit and had a hell of a time without TCS.

Dewey. Infineon was one of the first tracks I tested it on, and my first session was w/o TCS. I beat my previous best (which had TCS on I am pretty sure) with the Camaro, but admit it was a handful. But yes, TCS would be available due to the lack of built in tuneablity. However it was quite fun leaving a set of dark skidmarks leaving the T11 hairpin every lap Cool

To be honest, I was rather surprised at the PI numbers of the final build. I expect mid-A, but never expected an S Class rating from this. I had toyed with adding Downforce, but decided against it as even I found the car rather driveable w/o it.

As for the day/time, I am hoping/aiming for Fridays @ 12M BST/ 7PM Eastern US/ 4PM Pacific US (Sat ??AM AU) It is the closest thing I can find to Internationally do-able. Yes it may be late on the East End of the Atlantic, but at least its a Friday Night when most are up late anyway.

Another goal is a 30-40 minute race length (50-100 Miles?) I will contemplate Quallys if there are enough entries to warrant multiple lobbies, however I am thinking rolling starts using inverted Series Points to set the line-up, as that would save 10-15 minutes that it takes to qualify.

I'll drop my name in the hat. I've been looking for an old skool muscle series (even though I've only ever driven Honda's, and well per gamertag, Volkswagen's yo) Smile

Tracks would likely include:

Sunset Superspeedway
Laguna Seca
Road Atlanta Full
Infineon Full

If a six race series add:

Motegi Speedway or Sedona Speedway
Sunset Infield Full or Indianapolis GP

I have to wait for TORA staff to return from Britcar to get this thing rolling. I hope that the timeslot is suitable, as it could allow for a very International field of drivers.

I am hoping to attract some drivers from other leagues as well... and am thinking of adding a "Series/League Represented" line to the entry form (as in the real IROC: "NASCAR" "Indy" "F1" "LeMans") except it would read "TORA" "XPLR" "NBR" "MMTCC" etc.

no number box, just your number on the b post, the IROC vinyl on the fenders and then your gamertag in the big box on the door. of course the TORA logo somewhere too I would assume.
