TORA Race of Champions 2012
TORA will be hosting its 4th annual Race of Champions on Sunday 6th January 2013.
With rumours that the current 3 times Race of Champions Champion ATR Dan will not be competing this year, it will provide us with a new champion. It’s just 9 weeks until the event takes place and at about 22:00GMT each Sunday I will announce something to do with the TROC.
The event will star at 20:00GMT and will last till about 23:00GMT depending on the number of entrants to the event.
Let’s look at some FAQs
How will the event work?
We will be using the same format as the past two years of 1v1 on one track. Car 1 will go round the track Forward way once it reaches the start line it will spin around (all four wheels must cross the line) and go round the track in the Reverse way. Car 2 will start going round the Reverse way then car 1 and once it reaches the start line will spin around (all four wheels must cross the line) and go round the Forward way. Video of the Silverstone version can be seen here, one for the current track will be shown once it has been announced http://vimeo.com/17859942
When the cars cross the finish line that will call the end of the race and whichever driver crossed the line first will win that event and advance to the next round. This will carry on until we have one driver left at the end who will be crowned the Race of Champion 2012.
Who can take part?
The official list will be posted just after the last event of the year. A sign up thread will be made in the Race of Champions section of the TORA forum and will be open until Friday 4th January.
There will be 3 levels of entry. When the sign ups open it will be open to all on the list but once the number hits the limit of drivers the priority list will be bought into effect. Top priority are the championship winners, middle priority will be the endurance winners and lastly it will be the race winners by amount of races won.
Example, if the limit is 12 drivers and 7 champions sign up, 2 endurance winners sign up and 5 race winners sign up. The 7 Champions and the 2 endurance winners will be taking part but it will be looked at with the race winners and will be determined by how many races each has won, the more the better
What cars will be used?
Each round the drivers will use the same car with the same build and tune to make it fair. The cars that will be used this year will be announced over the coming weeks.
What track will this be at?
The first TROC happened at Sedona Full, the second and third TROC happened at Silverstone National. This year we will be at a new venue for this event. This will be announced in the coming weeks also.
Can we practice this event?
I would advise to do some testing in any car and get used to the spinning around the start line.
What events count towards the TROC?
GT Season 8
GT Season 9
ISCC Euro
ISCC America
TASCAR
TCC
NATCC
JTCC
Porsche Supercup
12hr Sebring
24hr Le Mans
24hr Silverstone
8hr Nurburgring
The ISCC has more then one class is it just the P1 driver who gets in?
No it will be each winner from each class, that’s the same with the endurance and the Porsche super cup PRO and AM winners.
What assists will we be able to use?
All assists will be forced off, transmissions will be open and steering will be open. Collisions will be set to off.
Any more questions just ask either myself of FranchittiFan will be able to answer you.
Right now there is 6 race meetings to take place, good luck everyone.
