I do often wonder why Americans don't really take to F1.

I watch both Footballs, F1 and NASCAR, and have an easier time staying up for 24 Hours of LeMans than a three hour NASCAR race.

I do often wonder why Americans don't really take to F1.

Being an American who once followed NASCAR and currently follows F1, I can take a crack at a couple theories.

1. The different feeder series where the current crop of drivers come from, such as GP2, DTM, and V8 Supercars are either not aired at all in North America or are shown on a highlight clip show and tape delayed much later on a cable channel almost nobody gets. This means Americans don't know any of the drivers before they're in F1, and very rarely have a connection because none of the drivers are from North America.

2. The F1 races themselves are almost never on basic cable or network television. This has been exacerbated by Speed dropping the contract and the races being aired on the little known NBC Sports Network (which is channel 200 something on my tv). You typically have to buy a special cable package to see any of these races, which start anywhere between 1am - 7am. That's not conducive to a casual fanbase.

Conversely, regardless of your opinion of oval racing, the drivers in NASCAR are almost all from North America, they drive car names people recognize, and go to tracks and locations people are familiar with. At one time PPG/Cart/Indycar proved open wheel racing on circuits could be successful in the US, and drivers were able to make the jump from this straight into F1, but they threw that all away. That is another story entirely.

Very true He seems to be maintaining a 'whatever will be will be' attitude but everyone knows that he's sick of playing second fiddle at Red Bull and would rather be treated like the second coming in Porsche's LMP1 program

Didn't watch the race because I like to sleep, but I was glad to see Rosberg led flag-to-flag and beat Vettel.

Despite none of my top three favorites finishing in the top 3, it was a brilliant race!

Chilton is really only in F1 because "daddy" is chairman of Aon Insurance so its no surprise that he came from a 22nd overall GP2 finish to getting a miraculous drive for Marussia. Delighted for Rosberg, really deserved the win!
