Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Why is Vettel a villain?
He's good natured, has a great sense of humour, understands British culture and has never said anything controversial. He's a triple world champion at just 25, and is well on track to make it 4 in a row. But he has the best car. So What? Webber has been in identical machinery and hasn't got a patch on Vettel.
Lets not forget his winning finger. Oh how can we forget the fact he points his finger in the air when he wins. Because that is so offensive and annoying, right? That is nit picking to the extreme. Getting annoyed at someone for celebrating a grand prix win. Really? And how about the childish squealing after winning a grand prix race. Is that annoying as well? Should he change the way he celebrates because you don't like it? Ridiculous.
Team orders are all well and good, as long as they benefit him. At the Malaysian Grand Prix, Vettel was ordered to stay behind Mark Webber after the final pit stop so both cars could conserve equipment and make it to home in one piece. Vettel didn't seem to like that all that much, so he passed Webber, who had turned his engine down to save it, instead. Team orders suck. Vettel is a racing driver, and he wanted to win the race. It was great racing, Vettel was faster, and he pulled it off. I do think the win was deserved, even if he struck while his teammate was going slower on purpose.
So go on, keep hating the winner. Hate the triple world champion. Boo him on the podium. Put all his wins down as being lucky. Say how he doesn't deserve it. Vettel, the pantomime villain. You keep on hating, he'll keep on winning.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Vettel was always going to be a top driver when he finish his 1st race in the top 8 at a track he'd never driven before.
My top 4 - Raikkonen, Alonso, Vettel, Webber (yes over Hamilton)

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
My top three are easy: Vettel, Kimi, Alonso... #4? Not so easy...
If Webber had loads of #2 finishes, I'd consider him, but lately... if all o Vettel's wins are due to his car, and Webber is lucky to finish on the podium? He just can't be that good.
Hamilton gets lots of poles, few wins. Either he is a one lap wonder, or he overcooks the car early on. Meh
I'd say the #4 guy on my list, someone who gets the best out of whatever he is in, would be a guy who couldn't get the money for a ride this year: Kobayashi.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Alonso is the best overall package, Lewis is easily the quickest on raw pace, and the other one in the top three is Kimi, in my opinion these three are in a different league to the rest of the field.

And just saying, I don't not like Vettel because of his winning, I just don't like him as much as my favourites..
I am fully aware that Vettel is an extraordinary driver and despite having the best car, it still takes someone with Skill to win with it.
But yeah

Technical: Mercedes' simple tyre wear solution
A photo taken by XPB's Russell Batchelor (above) in Italy reveals exactly what Mercedes have been doing to control the temperature of their fronts and rears.
The inner-side of the wheel rim is covered in small extrusions. This 'dimpled' effect creates more surface area to dissipate the heat generated by the tyre. Whilst it might only be by a small amount, it seems it's enough to ensure the tyres remain in the crucial 'optimum operating temperature window'. According to former Williams chief engineer Mark Gillan, the design is incredibly complex to achieve and should offer a 25-30% improvement. "This complex dimpled and scalloped pattern is not straightforward to manufacture and therefore indicates a lot of research and development has gone into developing this component and proving its benefit before committing to its manufacture," he told James Allen on F1, adding it should "give up to 25 to 30% thermal transfer improvements over the smooth surface variant" which is currently run by Mercedes' rivals.

Very interesting, follows the same principle as a convection heatsink in electronics.
And, as much as I'm not a fan of Lewis Hamilton, he is one of the best drivers on the grid. Alonso and Hamilton are the best.

To embed youtube videos, either copy the URL link into the new ''youtube'' button on quick post, or put the end part of the link (the numbers and letters) in between ''''

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Today's new 2014 rumour has Perez taking his boatloads of cash to Lotus with Hulkenberg taking his talents to McLaren.
Makes sense as Lotus needs money and McLaren needs talent.

I think you mean that Perez is taking his talent and money to Lotus and McLaren are replacing him with equal talent...Flyin Mikey J wrote:Today's new 2014 rumour has Perez taking his boatloads of cash to Lotus with Hulkenberg taking his talents to McLaren.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Would prefer to see Di Resta at McLaren tbh. Hulkenburg is quick but Lotus may suit him more. And there's no guarantee Big john is safe at lotus
I see it like this:
Red Bull: German & Ricciardo
Ferrari: Alonso & Raikkonen
Mercedes: Hamilton & Rosberg
McLaren: Button & Perez
Lotus: Hulk & Big john
Sauber: god only knows (Massa & Sirotkin if I had to say)
Toro Rosso: Vergne & Da Costa
Williams: Maldonado & Bottas
Force India: di Resta & Sutil
Caterham: Kovalainen & Pic
Marussia: Bianchi & (sadly) Moneybags
