The combination of the two series seems to have created something entirely different that deserved a different name. And I think that no matter what the new series would have been called there would have been lots of negativity about the name.

My bet is that it will end up being United Sports Car Championship (USCC).

Is there a good website to follow this (apart from this thread!!). I am knida new to Sports car racing (only started watching it from joining TORA!!). I understand there is a change happening, and heard it being discussed in commentary during the race last weekend, but other than that I don't understand what is happening!

but would like to read up on it a bit more as I would like to understand it better.

You will have to forgive my lack of understanding on all of this, but since you all seem to have opinions on it, you must be getting information from somewhere, so hoped you could tell me Very Happy

"They talked to us about how we can speed up our cars by 6 seconds. If that's the case, we might as well all throw our cars away,” said Wayne Taylor. “If Continental or someone else makes a new tire, that's one thing, but if we're going to stick to what we have and just find 6 seconds, you're talking about 75 horsepower, more aerodynamic devices, diffusers, wind tunnel work.

“Suddenly, most of your stuff is obsolete and all of the spares are obsolete. So I don't think it's realistic in them expecting us to do that.”

While Taylor supports making minor adjustments, such as a new rear wing and a slight bump in horsepower, there are others such as 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona winning team owner Michael Shank who disapproves making any changes altogether to the current Gen-3 formula, which was introduced just last year.

"We don't need to do anything; we're the top class,” Shank said. “We just invested $250,000 per car a year ago for Gen-3. As a Ford team, I'm also having to go to a turbo motor and another nose and bumper cover because we have new Ford stuff coming [for 2014].

“So for me to have a [new] rear wing, diffuser, front splitter, it's pointless. As far as I'm concerned, we are the premier class in [USCR] and we shouldn't have to spend any more money to make our cars compatible with P2.”3

Bottom line these are two different class cars (DP & P2) that will never be equal. The top ALMS GT cars are almost as fast as the slow DPs. Never mind trying to catch up to the P2 cars, they need to worry about staying ahead of the GTs. In the long run the P2 class in the USCR will probably end up going away because of the manufactures supporting the DPs and there being only 4 P2 cars around.

they seem to think that the manf. want to get into the superDTM business because it'd be lucrative to them, no regulating body other than the manufactures...no pesky FIA/ACO to deal with.

think about what particular american silhouette cars with different body panels that you could do up along side the super/DTM cars

remember what BMW did going from the M3 GTE car to the M3 DTM car...now picture that with corvettes and mustangs huge fender flares and even more downforce Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Ford, GM, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Merc, Audi/VW, and BMW would all be represented.

the current superDTM cars would SPANK anything less than a P2 car and up.

So I would have thought:

LMP1 (New rules to allow Porsche and

LMP2/DP (New rules to merge them both)

GTE (For a few seasons untill it dies)

GT3

GX class ( GX/GT4

I heard they announced 5 classes at Sebring this year for 2014.

Just currious why you guys keep saying GTE is going to die and GT3 is going to take over, It's already been confirmed that for 2015 GTE and GT3 are going to be merged and become 1 class.... also i love how the american teams are alienating not only the prototype teams from the ALMS but from Europe as well. If they get rid of P2 it would keep the European teams away and I think that's what the Grand-Am teams want because they fear them. I remember in 02' the last year real prototypes ran at the rolex 24, Ascari came over from Europe, the team had never been to the track before and they placed a car in 2nd for qualifying just 2 tenths of a second behind the Dallara Judd! the team stayed in the states for a month and a half and also ran Sebring where they had no such luck but got a top 5 out of it. This is the first time since 02 a team from Europe can come over and fight for the top spot and the head up their arse grand-am teams don't want anything to do with it, that's just sad as this proves they don't want to be the best in the world, just 2nd best is what they're shooting for.
