Like I said, look to an unrestricted DP as just a closed-cockpit P2. Once you give the stupid things real downforce instead of the mandated lack of it, and add in better tires, they should be comparable.

Super gay? Not as gay as the Delta Wang. Nothing can be as gay as a car shaped like huge man bits.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
So your basicly saying make it a P2 with a fibre glass DP shell on top lol. As for the delta wing you have to look past its exterior to truly understand what that car is about.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
Here's a tidbit of info:
LMP2's will most likely disappear from GrandALMS
Peter Baron (Starworks) is now expecting LMP2 numbers will fall because they cost too much to run. He claims that they may cost about the same to buy as a DP but the LMP2's cost twice as much to run in a season.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
That would actually be better than trying to merge the 2 cars , i respect both types as individual classes the concept of a merge is just plain stupid imo.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
I'd like it, as Hailfire stated, if they'd improve the tires and increase the downforce on DPs. That would help make the "faster is better" crowd...
But, in all reality, making the cars handle better doesn't necessarily improve the racing as much as it simply improves the chances of the less skilled drivers.

That's why petit Le Mans gets more than average the entrants every year... It may not be apart of the WEC, but it's key race to Le Mans, every year...

Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
Either way, at this point in time this series merger will suck in one way but be better in others. While ALMS had better racing, Grand-am has better coverage and an easier way to follow the series, I.e. grand-am series app that has full races and race recaps to watch. And I believe that once the series starts getting better coverage and easier to follow fan-base, the competition and racing will get better cuz sponsors and manufacters will see a new way to promote their stuff.
It's suck that America doesn't have the "best" sports car series and that it's hard to track and watch, even harder to track and watch the races from other countries. But I think with COTA here, it will help bring the better races and expose the American sports-car fan base to what the world has to offer.

Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
Remember with the new LMP regs comming into power in 2014. (LMP and GT)
When they join together they both will have a new rulebook to play with so both series will have to match/change towards the other so P2 and DP will not be what they were. So the join up will not be as 'rough fit' as we are lead to beleve.
But if you had my opinion. Grand-am can leave ALMS alone its good where it is.

Just saw this, and in the words of IRT Trash: SUPER Gay:

If they decide to do that, I may refrain from watching at all...
BTW, my public response to that bit of news:
With the merger between the American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM Road Racing likely to result in increased grid sizes, we could see split Prototype/GT races.

BTW, my public response to that bit of news:
SPLIT races? Sorry for my terrible French but "(censored) THAT!!!" There would be NO reason to ever watch a dozen protoypes w/o any GT cars on the track. No interest in that idea whatso(censored)ingever.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
Kinda been avoiding this, but, finally listened to the RadioLeMans.com podcast on it.
I am thinking that this will be the end of the Daytona Prototype as we know it. The "Daytona Prototype" name will remain, but, they will essentially be LMP2 spec cars. After about 5 years there will be no difference and know them as either just LMP2 or just DP cars.
The discussion for spliting the field for certain race reminds me of the discussions here about ISCC splitting lobbies to run either all 4 classes in a lobby or P1 & GTE in one lobby and P2 & GTC in another. I would have to see a split Grand Am race before I could completely dislike it. But, it should be fine as long as the series draws enough entries to require a split and that it would be LPM2/DP & LMPC in one race and GTE?, GTC, & GTX? in the other.

Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
SCCA had split races and those were ok, I suppose. However GrandAM/ALMS wouldn't work, why? because where is the fun in that? You'd have a race with, 25 cars? and then the other with 50?
riiiight.
riiiight.
Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
The dozen P cars would be quite the snoozefest, but IMO, after further thought, the GT cars could put on a great show. Actually they do already, just that the cameras are usually aimed at the Prototypes, even if there is on P1 on track and the other in the pits for 5-10 laps.

Re: 2014 United Sports Car Racing Season
I'm really starting to think this is a horrible idea.
No way in hell are the DP's gonna homologate with P2 AND DW. not a snowball's chance in hell... if they are soooooo adamant on using the DP's, drop the LMPC class and let them run separate from P2/DW.

Agreed.
I liked this tweet that David Heinemeier Hansson put out:
And if DP and P2 truly were to become equals, why would anyone spend more money on a DP when P2s can also go to Le Mans, Spa, Silverstone?

I think 2014 is going to be a crazy a$$ year with all the cars mixed together. After '14 it should start to improve. I'm going to see them while I can. Got my COTA tickets today.

why kill off a strong and getting stronger P1 feild, for a shaby unbalanced DP class, where you could drop a smaller class (PCs) and have them run there
oie vie
