WWIII is fast approaching....

I think the crisis in Mali with the French going in with full force and the recent capture and murder of many oil workers in Algeria will erupt into something bigger than it is being made out to be.

The Algeria thing is just bad timing, to be honest, these groups make a hell of a lot of money from kidnappings and suchlike. Most companies have insurance in place for just this eventuality, generally speaking, in the same way as the Somali Pirate thing, once they get their money, everyone is released, and life goes on.
This bunch had the misfortune to try and link what they were doing, to Mali, and then kill a couple of people. The Algerians then decided not fo F around this time, and nailed them.

Mali is part of a much wider picture, a lot of terrorist groups are moving into Africa in force, mainly due to the lack of solid democracies out there to stop them.
Mali however, is such a democracy, and is a part of the UN, as such, they asked the UN for help, and France stepped up.
With Afghan starting to wind down, I suspect more focus by the media will be given to Africa now. These sorts of fights have been ongoing for several years, but because its African soldiers fighting, the Mainstream Media isnt so interested.

China's economy would go completely in the tank if the West cut off or placed restrictions on goods. Lower profit margins outside of China equal no profit margins there.

Even without restrictions there is already a credit bubble being rapidly approached there and defaulting will come. The only thing keeping that concern from rearing it's head are outside investors and spenders gobbling up corporate dollar bonds. The Chinese aren't stupid, they know their economy is tied to the export of those goods and their military power is directly tied to their economy.

most companies are strapped for cash anyways, if we stop making stuff in China and make them somewhere else where the min. wage is higher, the companies will go bust. Besides, manufacturing isn't the only thing (yes it's a big part) keeping China going. They have their own stuff going on. The global companies dumping their [Censored] on them just jump started their economy. Why do our currencies take a dive when China's go? Because they have that power over our economies, just like the states.

The other article states that they wanted diplomacy to take place before sanctions were brought on. The sanctions would have eventually had to come anyhow. It's nothing but lobbying by Russia to control more oil. If worse came to worse I can assure you they would help and try to control the oil by force.

Roadrunner do you realize that cutting those companies would actually help countries? Do you understand what a GDP is? That would increase our GDP in America or any country that benefited and boost their economy, not hurt it. Don't think for a second that the owners and people who run these companies don't rake in billions. The amount of money it would cost them personally, not the company, is the reason they go overseas for labor. You can only charge people so much for a product. There would be an increase in that cost but it wouldn't be substantial and the unemployment rate would plummet.

yes, I do, and yes this is true, but with hard times as it is the re-tooling cost would be IMMENSE and nobody wants to fork over that kind of money. also a lot of companies would nned to build factories from scratch.

Those factories would create more jobs to build them and the factory itself would create jobs. What was needed to build the factory would create more jobs. More engineers to design things and on and on and on. The economy would flourish. The tax money from all of this would help the government out though they'd probably screw it up by giving more foreign aid to China for the money we cost them.

And lots and lots of cash down the drain when they already have the resources and workers out there in china costing them insanely less amounts of cash to pay and therefore increasing profits.

Any business that upped sticks from super cheap labour to build brand new factories and pay workers 100's of times more money would be insane. they'd lose millions.

The aim of a business is to generate the max profit possible. No point doing the above if it just makes your company worse for wear.

Unless sanctions force you to do so by making it more expensive to go out of the country.

They do this to pad the pockets of the people at the top which is good business for them but in the long run really bad. The current situation for all of us is not sustainable. No one can argue that and the solution isn't to keep importing everything. Notice the countries in peril are the ones relying on cheap labor and the one prospering is China. That isn't a coincidence.

Cash means nothing when your company no longer becomes an asset bandicoot.

Its OK lads ww3 will be started by Ireland Switzerland and Canada jointly trying to take over the world. No one will believe they are at war with any of these countries until its too late.

Guys, you do realize we have a good 10 other semi-developed nations to make our goods for us if China gets cut off, right? I wouldn't be TOO surprised if we send a bunch of factories and a private military corps over to Ethiopia and have THEM do what China does.

China's the most convenient option, not the only option.

Which is why when it stops it will be a law penalizing companies more than they already do.

As of right now it is the only option (including the US Europe etc). The supply chain infrastructure that the US and Europe have exported by failing to protect domestic goods is in China and has been built over a couple decades. While something similar could be built in Africa somewhere, it would take massive govt. investment. As most of the Govts. in Africa are both co-opted and corrupt (or in the case of Somalia, non existent). This insecure climate coupled with the lack of government capital to invest means that production is not likely to move in any significant way from China and the far east.
Government investment is what has made China a production superpower, this is because subsidies result in cheaper labor costs for large manufacturers. Because of the austerity mantra and focus on inflation that is in vogue in the west, the horizon looks bleak for the future of anything but a service economy in western countries.

Which is why I said it would take penalties from our government to change the course of things in that instance. I guess someone else has just as wild as an imagination as I do.
