XPR Soundwave wrote:Porsche LMP1, mid-2013
I know this is from a month ago but to elaborate:
Porsche's highly anticipated entry into the LMP1 ranks of the FIA World Endurance Championship continues to build momentum, with the German manufacturer confirming this weekend that its program will be run by a new factory team based out of its Weissach, Germany headquarters.
Additionally, Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche AG Board of Management Member for Research and Development, revealed the first roll-out of the new-generation prototype will come in the middle of next year, ahead of a planned full-season attack in the FIA WEC in 2014.
Leading new LMP1 program will be Fritz Enzinger, the former head of BMW's Formula One program, while Porsche's Head of Motorsport, Hartmut Kristen, will continue to maintain all of the manufacturers' other motorsports programs worldwide.
Details of the program were announced Saturday evening at Porsche's "Night of Champions" celebration in Stuttgart, where confirmation also came that all nine of the current Porsche factory drivers have been retained for 2013.
They include: Joerg Bergmeister, Patrick Long, Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Wolf Henzler, Patrick Pilet and Marco Holzer.
So far, only Henzler's full-season placement has been announced, with the German remaining with Team Falken Tire in the American Le Mans Series. No fewer than four additional factory drivers are expected to head up Porsche's new works GTE-Pro program in the WEC, utilizing the new 991-model RSR.
Winning this year's Porsche Cup, an award for the top-ranking privateer Porsche driver, went to Nick Tandy, who competed in the International GT Open with Manthey Racing.

Lotus is also feilding a 2 car LMP2 team this year. Brand new chassis dubbed the T128
The newest LMP2 car is set to take part in the FIA World Endurance Championship this year, with the Kodewa Lotus team announcing a two-car entry with the new Lotus T128.
Confirmation of the program by the German squad came Thursday, one day after entry requests for the WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans were due to the ACO.
Lotus LMP2 will campaign two of the all-new entries, with Thomas Holzer and American Kevin Weeda as the nominated drivers. Both were a part of the team's lineup last last year when it ran a pair of Lola B12/80 Lotus entries. Further drivers are reported to be in discussion with the team.
The car, designed by Munich-based Adess AG, is set to break cover in the coming weeks after nearly a two-month production delay

Re: 2013 Endurance Talk
another interesting thing I read today:
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/le-mans-privateer-lmp1s-given-performance-boost/
Following a season dominated by the factory Audi and Toyotas, it appears privateers will be given a better chance to fight for overall wins in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship.
The FIA Endurance Committee released Wednesday the first set of Balance of Performance adjustments for 2013, confirming air restrictor, fuel capacity, refueling restrictor and weight adjustments for LMP1 cars.
Non-hybrid gasoline-powered cars, such as Rebellion Racing's Lola B12/60 Toyota and the HPD ARX-03a campaigned by Strakka Racing in last year's WEC, will have a 2 percent larger air restrictor, along with 5 liters of additional fuel capacity and 8mm larger refueling restrictor. Such cars will also not be subject to a class-wide 15kg weight handicap, which has been imposed on all gasoline/diesel hybrids, as well as non-hybrid diesel-powered cars.
The changes are expected to have a significant effect on the top prototype category this year, with privateer teams now able to run lighter, with more power, have longer stints, along with shorter refueling times.
The BoP adjustments comes in wake of today's entry deadline for the WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans, with all teams required to submit their requests and deposits to the ACO and FIA by midnight in France.

Re: 2013 Endurance Talk
that's what I thought! Interesting to see what those guys make of the new rules and see if they can actually keep up with Audi, Porsche, and Toyota
Re: 2013 Endurance Talk
factory teams will always win, this just makes it more appealing for privateers.
Re: 2013 Endurance Talk
I think Porsches' return to P1 will bring Audi back down to earth. No more chrome spaceships flying around the track lol

Toyota will breeze the next Le Mans, but would be awesome if Audi clawed their way to it just like they did against Peugeot in 07 and 2010.

Re: 2013 Endurance Talk
Getting a lot of lag here in Florida. Radio Le Mans audio is coming in nicely.
Pirro looked happy with the R10 getting the 2000's. Still surprised the R8 wasn't there instead of the R10. I guess it was the battle with the 908 that got it there.
And the R18 e-tron gets 2010-2012. Very nice!

No surprise here, they announced this when they unveiled the Viper back last spring. Hoping to pick up where the last factory team left off! Give 'vette a run for their money!
