TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Rumbling into TORA on Friday Nov. 8 2013 at 8PM is the TCR Vintage Trans Am Series.
At the intersection of NASCAR, Sports Cars and Spec Cars, these 400+ HP beasts have been tamed via huge racing tires and as much or little downforce as you dare to use. The spec builds have been set to equalize all of the cars, this helps keep tuning time down to a minimum, while maximizing driver over builder. This should be a welcome alternative to heavy tuning, as well as pure spec racing... both of which are great, this is just a bit different.
In testing, the differences between quickest/slowest cars was about three tenths of a second, which should provide some of the closest racing to be found in the FM4 world.
Track list has yet to be set, but I'm pretty sure that Sunset Infield Club, Maple Valley Reverse, and Infineon NASCAR will be included in the five rounds.
Chat away...

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Now comes the part where I give the TORA community a chance for some input:
Assists. Back in 1970, Traction Control was but a gleam in a young (whoever inveted TCS)'s eye. In testing I never once was even remotely tempted to turn on the TCS, so the cars were built w/o it. And I am probably the worst TCS offender in all of TORA...
So, do we dare force off Traction Control?

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Haven't driven the Trans am yet but I'm going to assume with the torque it has it should really spin the tires coming out of a corner. I personally like being able to use TCS.

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
try it both ways, TCS on and off, and let me know if you need it. While I wish I could use TCS on my TCC Lexus, I don't feel the need for it with these cars.
Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Remember to check the series' rules every so often between now and the first race meet, as it is not only possible, but rather highly likely that rules will be added as things roll along.
Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
these cars are so much fun with no TCS, managable but still make you need to drive it and keep it under control, switch her off
Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Likewise. They didn't spin up as much as I expected. Manageable. But I wouldn't be against others using TCS.

Don't care - I'm in!
Need to do some testing to see what in though.
Would love too see Laguna Seca on the calendar as these sort of cars run there in the historic races too.

That settles it... I LOVE Laguna Seca, but didn't want to seem greedy by adding it to the schedule. But since it has now been twice requested, it is in.BG Cowboy wrote:Don't care - I'm in!

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
^ I counted you as the second request for Seca.
The tracks would now include: Laguna Seca, Infineon NASCAR, Maple Valley Full (had an epic race there in Spec Mustangs) and now a maybe at Sunset Club.
Need to select at least one more, and I will rule out Road America and Sebring, as I find them both to be a bit boring even if they are somewhat era correct. I'm thinking Mugello Club, as the TCC races there were great fun in most lobbies, and maybe Road Atlanta, if we don't get tired of it after LeMons.

Maybe Tsukuba to get a little creative.

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Creative, as in finding a "creative" way to get past someone?
Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
I find Mugello boring altogether. Catalunya is a no-no, Camino is a marmite track. Motegi isn't too bad, nor is Silverstone Intl.
Laguna Seca, Infineon, Sunset & in particular Maple Valley Full get my vote. That is one great calendar right there

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
Silverstone International is a good intermediate length track or perhaps Indianapolis (unless it is too similar to Sunset) for something a little longer and keeping it on all USA based tracks?

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
I wasn't intentionally trying to keep it on all US tracks to be honest.
But, if I were, and since the series ends a full six weeks past LeMons, Road Atlanta could be a great venue for the series finale. I love tossing them through the esses and rumbling up the backstraight.

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
They are all the parts that need to be added to get the correct build for the car. So you will need the highest upgradable brakes, which is race. After the parts are added your car equal PI 561. As well as meeting the relevant horsepower and weight restrictions for the particular car you choose.

Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
The reason for specific build per car was balancing the different cars to take away any advantages of one car over the rest.
Re: TCR Vintage Trans Am Series Discussion
The schedule has been finalized:
Laguna Seca
Maple Valley Reverse
Infineon NASCAR
Sunset Club
Road Atlanta
