Today marks 20 years since the death of a F1 great and to many the greatest F1 driver of all time.

My Dad and I are big Senna fans, my Dad has collected all but one of Senna's model f1 cars plus all his mini helmets, along with his model 1993 kart that he raced against Prost and fellow f1 guys, and the model 1984 'ROC' Merc that he raced to victory at Nurburgring, We also have a full size replica Senna helmet along with many Senna DVD's,books and posters. a few years ago I bought a DVD off ebay of the 1994 race to see how it all played out and even thought the footage was quite shocking, it still felt like I was watching it on TV for real.

I was wondering if anyone was watching the race and saw it live and if there any more Senna fans here on TORA?

RIP Senna

I remember that day. I was nearly 11 and F1 was the norm in our family home - the races were always, always on. Back then I was too young to worry about championship standings or anything too in depth. I just loved watching racing and as the years went by I was an avid Damon Hill fan and after he retired, I began watching Mika Hakkinen religiously. I wasn't a Schumacher fan at all.

I remember my mother crying in the house and we watched the events unfold. It was only in watching this and my mothers emotions that I began to understand the gravity of it all. I began to understand that this was a very important man. That following day - the Monday - I starting keeping newspaper cut outs of the reports and when I travelled back to Ireland last, the only thing I brought back to Toronto was a single news paper cut out that had Frank Williams in it as well as an image of the car. I'll take a picture of it when I am home and post it on the thread.

Senna was a great racer for sure but I think he became more of an idol, an icon to me because of his attitude, his expressive nature, his philosophies in life and the fact that he lived life as best and as equal to his ability on the track. For these reasons I became a huge fan of racer but also a man.

Let us not forget Simtek Ford driver Roland Ratzenberger. Who tragically died during qualifying. A truly horrendous weekend in the illustrious history of Formula One.
