TORA 2015 Announcement Tora_b11

TORA Offices - 3/10/14

Today TORA is proud to release details of it's initial 2015 activities. For the first time, TORA participants will be able to take part in championships featuring the best British circuits on the much anticipated new title, Project CARS from this Winter.

Why Project CARS?
TORA has always strived to bring the most realistic racing championships available.
We firmly believe that Project CARS provides us with a unique opportunity to not only bring new championships to the virtual racing community but also work with the best national and international series to represent them in the virtual sphere.
With a huge raft of real word circuits maticulously recreated and dozens of cars, Project CARS allows us to build on our expanding virtual racing world.

With that in mind we are proud to present two of our anticipated championships for Slighty Mad Studios' new title, Project CARS, starting in Winter 2015.

TORA GT Championship 2015
For the first time in TORA history, the premier GT series will take place on Project CARS. Based on the highly competitive British GT Championship, TORA GT brings together high powered sports cars with the most challenging circuits Britain has to offer.
The championship has a long standing link with TORA as it was the original inspiration for the TORA GT Championship, now entering it's 13th season.
The TORA British GT Championship will bring together cars from Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Ginetta, Mercedes, Nissan and Porsche (RUF) to compete at Britain's greatest circuits.

TORA President Matt Hunter;
"As the inspiration behind TORA's founding series, the opportunity to emulate the fantastic British GT Championship for the first time with the real cars and circuits is a massive opportunity for us.
We hope we can take this opportunity to show real and virtual fans alike why the British series is the best domestic sports car series in the world".

TORA Endurance Championship 2015
The 2015 TEC will make full use of Project CARS' full weather and day/night cycles to bring even more realism to the endurance events and it's associated coverage.
TORA will also be bringing new events to console racing for the first time.

Daytona 24 - The iconic opener to the US racing season arrives at TORA for the first time on Project CARS. Entrants will also be able to enjoy the preceding 'Roar Before the 24' test, all in real time and with full weather and time transition.

Bathurst 12 - This relative newcomer to the endurance calendar has captured the imagination of sports car fans all over the world and attracted some of the world's best to compete in this gruelling once around the clock event to conquer Mount Panorama.

Le Mans 24 - TORA's blue ribband event returns with full weather and day/night transition. Prepare for the focussing experience of nearly 200mph on the Mulsanne Straight at the dead of night. This race is going to be special!

Spa 24 - The premier racing event for GT3 and GT4 cars makes it long awaited debut at TORA. The weather in this region of Europe is notoriously fickle and rain is a constant threat. Can you tame Eau Rouge at night?

Silverstone 12 - The home of British motorsport and TORA's spiritual home, Silverstone plays host to the 12hrs multiclass race in Britain's early Autumn.
If the race is anything like the last two encounters this will be yet another classic.

Nurburgring 24 - The 2015 TORA racing calendar will conclude with the most challenging race of the year. Twice around the clock at the most iconic racing circuit on the planet.

The media output will continue to be a mix of our excellent in house talent and the experienced staff at Downforce Radio to whom we offer our thanks for their continuing involvement and support. TORA members can expect some particularly exciting developments in this area as we explore the options open to us with full twenty-four hour coverage of some of the world's greatest endurance races.

More news and championship details will be announced closer to the release of this much anticipated title.

I too have worries about whether or not the platform will work on consoles for multiplayer. I do agree that the game provides great potential for the GT/ISCC/TEC series, but we were in the exact same position exactly one year ago with Forza 5, and look how that turned out.

I personally would have waited until somebody actually played the game themselves on the console, but nonetheless, I look forward to it.

If only the american manufacturers were included in the game, it would be sweet. My other thing is that if GT is dropped from Forza completely, and american manufacturers aren't included in the game, teams like VSRT and the virtual vette team will have to go somewhere else to race.

Oh hey, does that mean they added customizable paint to the game? Because that's also about 50% of what makes TORA "click".

Sorry, I should probably clarify/tone it down a little.

I'm not necessarily trying to preach "DOOM! GLOOM! HORRIBLE THINGS!" I just want to advise caution about jumping head-first into an unproven game from an unproven developer. If you said "We will start with a test GT series and a test TEC event, and go from there" I wouldn't be nearly as weary.

However, starting out the announcement with "**** FORZA! We have something we think might possibly be better!" isn't a great thing, only to weave in basically how the whole direction of the site will be force-fed into a game where the only 'credentials' the developers have is...Need for Speed Shift.

If the game turns out good (or better, at least, than Forza 4) then I'll somewhat eat-crow and follow suit. But guys, dumping all your chips onto the table over this is really scary.

Oh yeah, British GT. At least that suits a good chunk of the demographic regardless of the quality.

I say screw Turn 10. They had the opportunity to wow us with Forza 5, And it turned out to be Forza 4 with some polish slapped on. I only play the damn game as it currently has no competition on the console.

Obviously only time will tell if Project Cars is the right step forward, But hell at least their trying to cater towards league gamers on consoles.

Has anyone at TORA ever heard of the word patience??

12 months ago, Forza 5 and you chuck everything in to the next generation console, and ended up looking rather silly really. Now granted we were all disappointed at the initial release, and its understandable why, it was pretty clear that Turn 10 had been shafted by Microsoft and simply didnt have enough time to put the game together, but now after the extra work thats been going in, its a decent game, it still has plenty of issues, but anyone expecting miracles and there best experience from day one were living in la la land.

Even to this day, your Forza 4 series have more competitors than your Forza 5 events and i understand that Forza 4 will be coming to an end, i know i personally have decided that a series im currently running in will probably be my last. Added to that the extreme difficulty in car matching which has seen a massive slump in a couple of the TORA showpiece series, as you have had to stick with Forza 4, but its not just here where the numbers are low, the other big site has seen a massive drop as well and the smaller sites have all pretty much disappeared now, alot of Forza users two years ago have headed down the sim market, including three of our team, which is only small, but they weighed up the options and that was the direction they went in.

So today you announce your 2015 plans for a couple of your showpieces series, on a game thats not out for another six weeks, is a complete unknown for the vast majority on the Xbox market and yet again, everyone seems to be expecting the perfect game with no issues and now the hopes are all up expecting TORA to deliver the perfect series in evenly matched cars, with day / night conditions. A game thats the first edition of hopefully a long franchise, and its certainly aiming high, the day night cycles, the weather is all new territory, we havent a clue on how the cars will work in a multi make series, How those subtle differences will translate across. We know theres no painting on the consoles, which fair enough, im a painter myself and i would rather have a game in which the extra time goes on the actual racing than how pretty you can make the car look. I also havent a clue or heard anything about the potential media options available, what about replays, we take them for granted and having been unfortunate to be involved in the Mini Spec Series, which had basically turned in to mini stox racing by round three and nothing you can do as there was no proof.

So whats the benefits of announcing these series at this point in time? Why take such a risk when these series arent going to start before 2015, granted, perhaps taking a small risk after further investigations, playable demo, or even the same week as release when a few of you can get in a locked lobby and test a few things out, to see what is available, what may work, what wont work. As a teaser for an upcoming series, even the first week in January start, we are talking three months and no builds for at least two months as im assuming you will be testing. Do you hope to encourage people to buy the Xbox One? Having worked in a few different areas of the media, im really struggling to find a benefit to such an early announcement, when you have extremely limited facts, a whole host of maybe's that need to be answered and having failed to deliver last year, because it wasnt possible, why run that risk again.

Sorry about the long winded answer and these are just my opinions as a forty year old man and im not wanting to come across too negative, i too am hopefully that Project CARS can deliver and make the online experience a whole lot better, i have mine on pre order, will be buying every dlc and will be looking forward to logging the laps, but im also realistic and know you can build a house on optimism and dreams, you need concrete foundations before building and that simply isnt available yet. .

Wheelwash, you said it best.

While Cars may uproot Forza, it also may fall flat. We dont know anything, and an announcement like this wasn't a smart move. especially since it already provided incorrect information.

We've considered that in our own discussions which is why we're not announcing actual calendars or confirmed car lists. The release indicates the races we plan to run and describes the cars that exist in the real British GT series and are either confirmed because they are present in game now or are anticipated. The only GT3 car noticeably absent is the 458 GT3.
Soundwave, I don't see what information you consider to be incorrect? If you'd like to discuss it further feel free to PM me Smile
