VLN Nurburgring 24 Hours Qualifying Report
RaceART Competition entered this event in high spirits after successful practice and testing sessions from all drivers. Both Patrick Schiwitz and Sam Evans were pole position contenders as all 18 teams prepared themselves for what promised fo be a close and highly competitive qualifing in both classes. It was therefore unfortunate to see XPR Scuderia drop out during the qualifying week in the run up to the race.
Anticipation was high for RaceART as they entered qualifying on Wednesday during the Q2 session. Mike Eyles and Alex Davis-Loades were scheduled to set laps. However, an issue with the latter's car meant that Davis-Loades would not be able to get out to qualify. He was therefore aloud to qualify on the final session alongside Evans and Schiwitz onFriday. Eyles' session did not go to plan either unfortunately, as he was unable to set a flying lap. His best time was a less than competitive 9 minutes 22.016, which was also an uncertified lap time. This put RaceART at the back of the grid after three of the four sessions had been completed. Despite this, Eyles remains one of the fastest lappers of all the drivers in GT, so he will still be able to shine come the weekend's race.
On to Friday, and Q4 breathed a fresh breath of optimism for the team as it would now be three drivers qualifying after Alex's qualifying dramas on Wednesday. Provisional pole position had been taken by LMR Red Dragon with Colin Barring, and then Alex Phillips as they looked to take a stranglehold on dominating qualifying. The target for RaceART Competition was to try to join them on the front row by beating F4H, Team FormulaForza and LMR Blue Dragon, certainly not an easy feat!
However, early optimism turned to disaster as Patrick Schiwitz announced he would not be able to commit to the race. This was a major blow to the team so close to race day. Fortunately there was fairly little panic amongst the team considering the circumstance, and things were sorted quickly.
Alex Davis-Loades and Sam Evans went into qualifying. Davis-Loades' session went very well for him, as he managed a clean session, achieving an 8:43.204, his personal best lap time. Sam Evans was likely to be the teams qualifying driver, especially with Schiwitz gone. He set an 8:37.748, not his best time, but enough to seal third on the grid for the race. His session was not quite clean, a scraping with the wall and a half spin at speed were among a few issues that left Evans' session less than perfect, but it was still a successful result for the team.
Third place gives RaceART their best result in a qualifying session, with previous best qualifying result being 11th position at the 2013 Sebring 12 Hours. The race will be a different prospect with a fourth driver, but the now all British team are still looking strong for the ultimate endurance race.

Cheers, same to you. Congrats on the pole. It's quite worrying that all three of your drivers that qualified would have outqualified us, you're going to be very hard to beat!
Good luck
