Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
My first sessions were with no aero, and while faster on the banking, it was slower in the turns. Low aero is much more manageable on the infield section, and much more consistent.
Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
Yeah, I only tried max, moderate and min race aero (settling on min), as I'm just not willing to race into that first turn with other drivers on the track at those speeds using no aero. Not enough control and stability, even if it was slightly faster.

Looks like we will be fighting for the same bit of real estate out there tonight.
Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
Didn't start tuning and running laps until just today. Managed a 1:32.020. Mid 1:31s are definitely more than possible but I keep making silly mistakes that I really shouldn't considering how well I know this track. Also not finding myself comfortable with the balance of dampening to lateral Gs I currently have, though I may end up driving through it because of how late I started tuning and how little 100+ hours of tuning practice has helped with understanding that one area of the physics.

I'll match that Mikey. Had a few splits for 18's but couldn't pull it off. I'm guessing there'll be a bunch of us in the middle around the same times.

Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
Did a last second tuning and lapping session again. Got into the 1:17.1 range. I think my car is also capable of 1:16s, but only with perfect laps. Car is pretty much just the Atlanta tune with gearing adjusted and low (but not minimum) aero. Think I also dropped the accel diff a notch or so.

Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
Anyone got any lap times for Maple Valley. I was running 1:42's but capable of 1:40's if I can get the setup underneath me, maybe 1:39's

Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
Fortunately, I barely had to do any last-minute tuning because the gearing for Sebring happened to be pretty much perfect for here by chance, so I could basically just do some light adjustments to the understeer/oversteer balance with ARBs and Damping and keep my Sebring (lightly modified Road Atlanta) tune with max aero. That Mustang must not cope well with this track if it's not giving you 1:36s easily. I'm getting 1:36s and a PB of 1:35.746. What areas do you think it's having trouble in Solar?
Also, haven't been posting my tunes as regularly due to the last-minute nature of my prep sessions and how iterative they've been from the tunes I already posted, but here's my current tune.

Re: TORA US American Iron Lap Times
It's probably too late to make any rational gearing adjustments, but you basically want to watch the car in telemetry and gear it so it shifts to a bit below peak hp, and then each shift on the straight should go from just when the power starts to drop back to when it starts to peak. My gearing on average goes from about 391 to 397 and then back down to 391 at redline before I shift again, while I think I remember the Mustang not dropping revs until just before the rev limiter, so you want later shifts with that one.
Once you have straights handled, you want the car to have optimal power at key moments of the track, including peak power launching from 60 mph and peak power on corner exits, prioritizing exits onto longer straights or sweepers where you can use the throttle steering to take the corner faster. It's basically all about optimal compromises. Get that straight line power set up, and then be willing to sacrifice a few hundredths in acceleration through the straights and some of the corners to gain tenths in some of the corner exits.
Funny thing is, gearing is the only part of tuning I truly comprehend. Everything else, I kind of just throw them around vaguely and hope to hit something lucky.
