FIA GT's (GT1-2) GT3 and GT4 racing news...
Ok so as to split up the Le Mans thread a little bit here is a thread solely for the GT machinery.
First up is the FIA GT and GT3 entry lists.
http://www.tuned.com/2009/03/official-2009-fia-gt3-european-entry-list/
No Mustangs
And the Entry list for the GT1-2 Class of FIA GTs
http://www.fiagt.com/results.php?event=50&season=2009&reporttype=Entry%20List
And if you want to know more about the GT3s in particular then the latest Top Gear mag has a FANTASTIC feature on the series plus smaller section on the other catagories...
I will also be using this thread to post reams and reams of info from the FIA GT's at Silverstone

Re: FIA GT's (GT1-2) GT3 and GT4 racing news...
In our warm up to the 'live' podcast from Silverstone, I'll be posting the lastest news ahead of the opening round of the FIA GT Championship.
The grid, which initially looked ot be desperately smal has managed to grow to 27 cars which isn't too bad. The entry last year was 31.
Main cars to note in thiese classes (GT1 and GT2) would be the Nissan GTR and Ford GT. Obviously the MC12s of Vitaphone Racing will be quick again.
In GT2 its a case of Ferrari v Porsche BUT with the added incentive of a Hexis run Aston Vantage GT2 (the only Aston in the field!)
In GT3, 38 (possibly a few more) cars will be taking the start. Eyes open for the Alpinas and Audi R8s which have proven quick in testing.
don't bet against the successful Ford GTs of Matech performing well again either.
21 entrants for GT4 should make for an interesting race. Quite a few Ginettas entered along with the new BMW M3. Their up against reigning champ Eric de Doncker in the Mustang.
KTM will be represented once more but not in the numbers we might have hoped with only one entrant.
If you want to see whats happening at the track now...Live streaming is available at:

funny thing about the GTR. it's in no way shape or form close to the production model.
it's not AWD
it's got a V8 instead of a V6
and it's got a proper sequential box rather than the twin clutch non-sense

You do know the FIA banned AWD from GT racing, which is why the R8 and GT-R are rear wheel drive.
Re: FIA GT's (GT1-2) GT3 and GT4 racing news...
yep, basicaly theyve taken the GTR, and fitted it to the FIA GT tech rules.
Is there a list of cars for next years new GT1??

No News yet Nicky, expect to see Ford Gt and Nissian of course, but intrest from corvet, bmw and ferrari.
Maserati, Saleen and Aston will have to ajust there cars to meet the requried standards if they want to race 2010 fia gt series.

yeah, i know, i just find it funny that nissan went through all the trouble to fit these cars to go racing, but if they had put a V8, RWD and a proper 6 speed manual in the production gtr, we wouldnt be having all these warranty issues with nissan.
and the maintenance costs on those cars are atrocious.

Re: FIA GT's (GT1-2) GT3 and GT4 racing news...
well, the GTR is all about 4wd (as its predessors), cutting edge technology and pure handling. Most Motorsport is not a place to show off road car technology these days (apart from Sportcar racing, which is helping the development of diesel engines vastly). Its all about brand image. If people see Nissans winning on a world stage, it will lift the image of Nissan higher. IMO, SEAT's involvment in touring cars has lifted their image vastly since 2004.
I mean, look at NASCAR!
Now I apply the same logic to your question about the GTR.. Why go to all the bother of creating a tubeframe monster that has no resemblance to the road car??

Round 2 at the Adria circuit on Sunday.
Will K plus K win again? Or will Maserati come back fighting?
Can Morgan make it four out of four?
We shall have to find out

Spa 24 Hours entry list Gotta love the Gillet Vertigo's.
Man I wish they actualy released GTR2 on the Xbox 360 all those years ago... Mabey the proper GTR title would still be going.

Haha, the cars in themselves are pretty insane too.
Okay, im gonna admit this now, theres something I dont know about motorsport...
Can anyone explain the G2 and G3 classes? Are they national homologation classes or something?

The G2 and 3 classed as invitational classes as you say for nationally homologated cars such as the Mosler which is able to run in our national series but not regularly in the FIA GT's
Note also the Citation Cup which generally allows for the older cars to run with 'gentleman racers' only is now in the GT2 class not GT1. Sad as that means no more Ferrari 550's
