TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
TORA Endurance Championship Round 1: 6 Hours of Silverstone
Welcome to the first round of the 2017 Season of the TORA Endurance Championship! To start the series, we are headed to the sunny UK to the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. Silverstone is of course one of the premiere places to race in the UK. Born out of an old RAF base, Silverstone has been hosting motorsports of some kind since 1947.
Qualifying - This will be the typical 1-Hour Endurance Qualifying. Drivers will have 45 minutes to set their fastest clean lap. We will be adding the best qualifying results from each team, so remember that more than one driver has to take part in qualifying. To sign up for qualifying, please use THE QUALIFYING THREAD. Remember that drivers should be/appear online 15 minutes prior to qualifying start, and should keep in-lobby chat to a minimal.
Race - This is a 6 hour Endurance race. Drivers will be competing in 3 stints of two hours each. However, drivers are reminded that the race actually only lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes. Drivers are reminded that they are to use THE STINT THREAD to assign stints to each of their drivers. Drivers are expected to be familiar with the rules and regulations come race time, so please review them before April 8th.

Pit Stops - The FINAL required number of pit stops for each class are as follows: 6 for LMP and 4 for GT.
Stint Starting Procedures - Stint 1 will start with a typical 80 mph 2x2 Rolling Start. Stint 2 and 3 will be a single file start, starting at the white line (below) coming out of Aintree on to the Wellington Straight. Remember that drivers are not to accelerate to race pace once THEY pass the designated start point.
If anyone has further questions, please post them in this thread. Good luck, and I will see you all on track.

Can we get the number of mandatory pit stops for both P1 and GT please?

Should be 7 in LMP1, 4 in GT.
It could be less on either count, but I think that's what has been used in the past.

Oh okay aha
But didn't that include the Mazda Lola and Toyota Rebellion instead?
TS040, R18 and 919 should be quite leveled, shouldn't they?

It did include the Mazda, but it was in a spec LMP2 class by itself. And if my memory serves, the LMP1 cars are not balanced at all when it comes to fuel mileage. To my memory, the 919 gets like 11-12 laps at Sebring, while the Toyota got like 7, barely.

That was during the first week or so of its release. They patched it soon after, and it now has the best fuel mileage by a good amount.

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
The messed up part is that they DOUBLED its mileage... At first it was only good for about 8 laps max, and now it can pull off 15-16... It's like a GT car for fuel.

Can confirm it's crazy. With some solid fuel saving I completed a 45 minute race at lime Rock without a single pitstop.

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
I ran fuel runs in all lmp cars 10 Audi 14 Porshe and 16 Toyota if my calculations are correct race should be around 60 laps completed so 6 pits sound reasonable to me due to the Audi being terrible with fuel

5 for LMP and 4 for GT. PLEASE keep it at the MINIMUM required.
Nice to see the build changes.

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
5 is cutting it close in LMP. Not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but driving these cars at a quick pace drains the fuel rather quickly. The same goes for GT with 3 stops, the Ferrari and Porsche being the culprits justifying 4 stops.

You are just one and most of us are not you so ...... fuel save??
Btw the 919 was only 20 mph faster last year so more rear tire is good thing. lemens.

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
No, actually YOU'RE the odd one out who is miraculously saving a pit stop or two worth of fuel, only to reveal that you're purposely running 10 seconds a lap slower just to pull it off. That's completely irrelevant when a pit stop takes 30-35 seconds...

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
You do not care to come talk about the how why we experience differences in the same game.
It will again be what ever harmonic wants so why such a fuss?

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
I know exactly why we're experiencing differences. I've already explained this - it's because your pace puts you in a place where you actually save fuel because you aren't pushing the car to its intended potential. That's why your claim is invalid. You can't claim that a car only needs X amount of stops when you aren't even driving it properly. Not trying to make a stab there, but that's the explanation for the difference.
You're the ONLY one here who wants to reduce the number of pit stops. Don't pin this on me when I'm not even registered for this series. If you don't want to take advice from someone who clearly knows the ins and outs of the game, then that's fine. Just don't complain when the community looks at YOU once someone's race is ruined by running out of fuel or doing too many stops because they're accustomed to the amount of stops we've been doing for the past year.

Look at me i do not mind. I stand by minimum required pit stops for all class's.
Your effort of "Not trying" should go 1 step further.

Dragonsyoung wrote:Your effort of "Not trying" should go 1 step further.
...just think about that for a second.
Back to the point... Your definition of "minimum" is flat out WRONG here. Your minimum and the true minimum are two different things, and the latter is what will be chosen. Hell, I could sit in 6th gear at 50 MPH the entire stint and make it on 1 stop, so is that the new minimum? Of course not. Your logic is flawed, so take your empty complaints elsewhere.

Re: TORA Endurance Championship: Silverstone 6 Hour General Discussion/Driver Briefing
There are many kinds of driving styles and pit strategies out there.
Some push the car to its limits in order to be competitive (what can cost more fuel) while others take it a bit easier to keep it consistent and save a bit fuel by doing so.
All what Dragonsyoung wanted to say is - at least how I understood it - that so far the mandatory pit stops where a bit more oriented on the "pushers", leaving the people having a different pit strategy/driving style behind. And if this mandatory pit stop rule would be losened a bit, there could be more teams fighting for podium, possibly making the whole race/championship more intense and interesting.
When looking at the real world examples for such a series (WEC, VLN, 24h of Nürburgring, etc.), you also find teams that need to make less pit stops (but are therefore slower) driving against teams that are faster on the track (but need more pit stops). In the end the teams with the best strategy fitted to their cars are usually on the podium. Be it the faster one or the more economic one.
@Harmonic: Just because people aren't driving the way you do, doesn't immediately mean that they are worse drivers.
Maybe I was misinterpreting something, but your previous posts gave me the feeling as this would be your opinion on drivers handling their cars differently. ^^
