Was a really fun race this week with some extreme fuel saving at the end that made things interesting

Was a really fun race last night. I’ve never been in a fuel mileage race where every single car was saving and dropping seconds a lap because pitting just wasn’t an option. Also extremely clean. Well done everyone.

Did you guys go the distance without pitting?

I sure as hell didn't. But then, I'm in the El Camino, I knew what I signed up for. My car could make it about 22-24 laps by my math, out of the 33. Several in A pitted, but most were able to make it with fuel saving, or didn't have to save at all. I'm hoping the remaining tracks use more fuel, so everyone needs to pit, but we'll see.

Interesting. I took for granted that everyone would have to pit one time. I'll have to take a closer look at fuel mileage next week.

Re: Welcome to American Iron 2018
My Chevelle seems a lap or two short so far. Not sure how far I can go at Lime Rock.

I think everyone will have to stop because of tires rather than fuel.
I got down to 98% wear on my left front at Sonoma by the end, and my last lap was a 1:23.xxx rather than the 17s I was running all race lol.

Re: Welcome to American Iron 2018
^ Sonoma tire wear: I pitted on L5 and had about 60% wear at the end. I'm easy on the tires I guess.
Re: Welcome to American Iron 2018
Yeah I had to drive at like 110% most of the race because I went from 12th to 5th, then sim-twitched and went back to 12th... Then I got into 8th, lost a spot, then eventually got into 2nd when Norm had to start fuel-saving, which didn't happen until lap 27.
I should get double passing points

I have a random question: Who's Steve Colgate and why is the Hard Charger Award named after him?

A former racer here on TORA (XPR Moontower) who was killed in a tragic traffic accident last summer. Naming the award in his honor is the least we could do.

Damn man, that's terrible. I didn't know. My condolences to all that knew him. Classy move on the TORA Staff's part to honor his memory.

Haha, no, Mikey, many have said this about themselves early in the year. By years end we should have around 700 rated drivers at which time you will no longer enjoy being in the top 50 most likely. lol
Truth is, you are very steady in your rating at this point. The computer predicted you'd finish 15th in the US race and you did which gains you 0 points. The computer predicted you'd finish 6th in the UK race but you finished 8th which took -15 points from you. I see a couple of underrated/performers below you too, but most of the drivers below you are either at your level or below your level.
Last year you ended up 347th with an A-Class rating of 1927.387 after 42 rated races. You have only 8 races this year so far. Last year's average rating was slightly higher than your 2017 rating at 1978.369 or around 323rd place, which means that you were pretty close to average. I suspect that by the end of the year you will be very close to average again.

Also, I'm tracking the top 7 most active drivers and their 7 most recent races to give people a good idea in recent history which way the 7 most active organized racing drivers are going. It's sort of interesting to see the ups and downs and relative consistency each driver has over time.

Re: Welcome to American Iron 2018
A PSA:
SO yesterday I did not handle myself with much grace or class prior to qualifying. For those who weren't drawing my ire, I apologize.
I don't take kindly to people coming in and criticizing how the series is run without a shred of evidence justifying it. But this is also a simple lack of communication skills. There's a right and wrong way, and the way that was chosen was about the most arrogant and ignorant way possible.
In addition, I did not advise of track limits issues to hear myself speak. This is a track that historically has had several per race. As a courtesy, it was mentioned during practice sessions. Those who chose to ignore it are running the risk of getting penalized.

Well Mikey, that didn't take long. Your rating took quite a hit this week, dropping your ranking down to 71st from 37th. The good news is one good race will bring you back up. Check out your trend line here as you have become one of the top 7 most active drivers. http://ifca.highforum.net/t6519-tracking-the-top-7-most-active-drivers#135064

Re: Welcome to American Iron 2018
Don, having controller batteries die, late in the race, in the brake zone for the bus stop, will have adverse effects on one's result. Not as bad as an early lag out, but still not good.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Looks like my stats are starting to stabilize. 24th place finish on 25th place projection.
