Police alert after dangerous patient goes on the run

Police are hunting a dangerous pensioner who escaped from a secure hospital while on a shopping outing.

Tiny patient Thomas James Clennell was on leave from Ravenswood Psychiatric Hospital, Fareham, when he gave his nurse the slip.

The 69-year-old has been known to use the aliases Jim Sanderson and Jim Tomlinson and has links with numerous places around the country particularly Southampton and Hampshire where he is known to drink regularly in the local pubs.

Police are concerned for his welfare and warn he may pose a risk to the public.

The slim 5ft 3in patient is white, with grey hair, a faded tattoo on his arm and occasionally wears glasses.

When he escaped from Cascades Shopping Centre, Portsmouth, on Saturday and 10.45am he was dressed entirely in brown including a brown leather jacket.

Detective Inspector Darren Rawlings said: “It is imperative that we locate Thomas Clennell.

“I would advise members of the public not to approach him but anyone with any information as to his current whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible.”
