BrennGP take possession of a new car
With Mugen Motorsport due to return this summer for the 2010 TORA Touring Cars, the team behind the entry, BrennGP, have today taken possession of the new Mugen Civic Type R. While the car is not elegible for any TORA-sanctioned championships, the team were given the limited edition car as a thank you from Honda.
Team owner ckBrenneke has said he plans to uprate some of the components of the car, and enter it into some club races. Keep an eye on our blog as we develop the car and enter it onto the Civic versus Golf challenge!

BrennGP take possession of a new car :: Comments
M&M Racing have also been given one due to their long association with Honda. A special paint design is being drawn up as we speak
With the car arriving in the BrennGP workshop in Prestwick this morning, ckBrenneke outlined the plans for the car.
"The Civic versus Golf championship is a club race organised by Turn10," he explained. "Basically, VW Golfs and Honda Civics running in D-class spec can enter. The Mugen Civic is a tuned version of the standard Civic Type R, which we ran in the TORA Touring Cars in the past, so we've got a bit of experience here. But the Mugen guys have done a cracking job with this.
"The chassis just feels tighter, stiffer, straight out the box. In that engine, which was already a bit of a beast, is even better up the top end of the rev range. As it is, it's pretty much at the limit of what's permitted in D-class, but we reckon we can push that a touch!"
The obligatory 'before' picture, the car in its stock form.
The first development was to prep the car for a new paint job. As standard the car comes in Milano Red, but ck had that down as the first change. "We're going with Tangerine Orange for the new colour. Honda released this as a option for the Type S in homage to the association they had with Team Halfords, so it is only fitting we run the Mugen Civic in that colour. It's a very deep, metallic orange, very fetching."
The Mugen Civic Type R takes the concept of the standard Honda EDM Civic, and knocks it up a notch, pushing it into Focus RS and Megane R26.R territory. The uprated Mugen block takes the Type R from 197 to 237bhp, and a stripped out interior sees a pair of Recaro buckets replace the front seats, and the rear bench removed. It features a remapped ECU, stainless steel exhaust, and new cams and pistons. With new suspension, brakes and grippier tyres, and a lightweight Mugen bodykit, the Type R is ever closer to a road-going touring car.
The Mugen brakes will be replaced by an Endless set
With the Civic versus Golf series nearing, ckBrenneke has decided to change a few key components of this ferocious car. "Whatever we change, it needs to be minimal to remain within our class, yet have a noticable impact for when we take it on track. As such, we're going to leave the engine alone, it's fine as it is. We're going to change the brakes to a set of Endless calipers and pads, then we've got hold of a set of Tanabe anti-roll bars so we can loosen the car up a bit.
"An HPD transmission will be fitted, and a lightweight driveshaft installed. We're also looking at fitting a race-spec diff."
The car is taken for respraying
With the car due to be dyno'd in the next few days, before heading off to the first meeting of the CvG series, the team are sure to have their hands full. We'll bring you the next installment soon.
Lightweight bodywork has been primed seperatly

Following the basecoat respray to Tangerine Orange, ckBrenneke has shook down the Mugen Civic Type R. The BrennGP owner did around 30 laps, dialing in the car to the test track, and was delighted with just how responsive the car was.
"The grip is phenomenal at this level," ckBrenneke told us. "You just point the nose through the corner and hammer the throttle and it doesn't want to let go! I feel rotten at the thought of modifying a car that Mugen clearly felt was pretty damn perfect, but the improvements we have made has made a noticable difference."
"When you are pumping 237 horses through a front wheel drive car, it's pretty important that you match that with good stopping power. The brakes are just so responsive, and the new gearbox is channeling the grunt well. The bark the car makes on the downshift is worth the money alone."
"We also decided to move our BrennGP private plate from our Ibiza rally car to this, as the Civic versus Golf championship is open to road legal cars. The Civic remains road legal, so it made sense. The car's still looking a bit bare and in need of some livery work, so once shakedown is over the car will return to Prestwick while garyp3398 and I head out to Japan for the Kaido rally.
"We'll be staying there over the weekend as we're also out for M&M Racing in the LMS at Motegi, then I'm in Spain for the Catalunya round of the TCM for Audi Sport Martini. All in all a busy week!"
wow that looks alot better than i honestly thought it would. Nice work mate cant wait to see the next update. This is looking like a good little weapon
Yeah, I drove a Type S turbo-diesel in this colour and fell in love with it. Car is back in the workshop until after TCM this week coming - can't wait for them round Catalunya!
I'm working on a livery for it, but can't get the one I want right on this car without losing the orange altogether, which I don't want to do. I'm also thinking of submitting this for a single-make D350 Mugen Civic Community Game Night.
With M&M, BrennGP, GRP and SBR getting hold of them (thought there were only 20 coming to the UK!?) it would be a shame not to get them running together in competition!

I can't wait to start work on mines We NEED to have a race in them, even if its not a TORA night
Oh, and I reckon that the 20 are the road going version...where ours are race cars And that Forza rear wing is HUGE
