Re: TDU2
I don't know if i'm on my own with this one.. but i keep buying racing games and everytime, even with its faults i have to compare to Forza and they seem to fail...
at £40 or so.. to sit on the shelf next to grid and dirt and SBK X etc etc..
forza needs a kick up its arse and a load of cool stuff it should add, but its still the best.
The jury's out until we switch all our racing at TORA to something new, then i'll be digging into pocket for £40..

Re: TDU2
To be honest I wouldn't include SBKX in that simply because that's bikes. Having said that, I really enjoy that, I also do like WRC but I try to avoid comparisions to FM3 outside of the online aspects and personalisation aspects.
FM3 is a good game, but does IMO lack some key features that the previous iteration had. In many ways FM3 is worse than FM2 but we still enjoy it and until a game has all the involvement and 'modability' of FM3 it won't be surpassed in this particular genre. I have quite hig hopes of Shift 2 in this regard though.

Re: TDU2
i totally agree..
i used SBKX as an example of those game you think i'll give it a punt from the pre-owned/budget bin section.. sits on the shelf..
I probably need to give it some time.. but when you have evening to game its always call between forza and battlefield.. god i'm boring..
I love the idea of WRC, formula 1.. but with TORA and needing testing time etc, I just look and put it back on the shelf thinking Forza will always take my time first.
I have the wish list for FM4.. and hopefully GT5 has made turn10 actually think about some new stuff.. but i wonder how much can now change when its a fall release and Kinetic seems to be the new thing to add..
you would think EA would be able to get the racing genre right sooner or later.. look at PES vs. FIFA..

Re: TDU2
EA have resolved to seperate the Hot Pursuit and Shift brands so that the NFS side of things has the arcadeyness it deserves and Shift gets all simmy.
By the looks of things they have really got the sim levels right and the moddability has always been there or there abouts. It ought to be alot closer to Foza this time out

Re: TDU2
If you enjoyed the first then you'll enjoy this, TDU was never about single player...all about cruising around online....It's a driving game not a racing game.
Forza for my racing fix, TDU for everything else. I've not done too much so far but I'm enjoying it. But then I cruised on TDU1 for hours at a time. There is no other game on a console that offers what TDU does, and that's why I will continue to play it to death.

Re: TDU2
i may be on the same boat as Slim. TDU 1 was great to just turn it on and criuse around Oahu, specially with friends. when i first got XBL (as ive mentioned, TDU1 was the game that convinced me to get XBL) i signed up to TDU:Central and met a great bunch of guys who would cruise almost daily. but now obviously with FM, TDU2 (if and whenever i finally get it from amazon) will be a game i'll use to just relax with and cruise with friends. So if your up for a cruise Slim, dont hesitate to find me on TDU (either version).

Re: TDU2
I didn't like TDU1 for some reason. I probably won't pick this up although without playing it I can't make a judgment on it. If you enjoy it then its all good.
Re: TDU2
Always up for a cruise Switch. My copy only arrived this morning and as the servers have been down I've been playing offline, Iv'e only just got off of it. I started with the Lancia Delta and then my first purchase was a 'Hawk eye' Impreza...I've already clocked 150miles in it, I think the Lancia is around the same too.
It's a bit weird walking around with the wheel (You can't look up and down), and pretty tough to use the map, just like it was with TDU 1. So every now and then I have to unplug the wheel and put in the pad. Doesn't really bother me tbh.

Re: TDU2
Single player storyline fails spectacularly, which even in the first one was never needed, whoever made the effort hasnt even watched the likes of Fast and the Furious or even Pixar's Cars to put a "reasonable" storyline in, If this was to be a offline game only, the only thing that would get people to buy this would be if you stuck the words "MTV Presents..." at the front of it. Right from the very beginning its all a bit...no its all a LOT outlandish , you may have fallen foul of the all-is-vanity introductory phase where you are given a Ferrari California AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT, once you get past the first "reality" part of the intro, you are no sooner thrust into the "Most prestigious motor racing event in the world" the Solar Crown (surely thats an effective portable recharging device for your ipod whilst on the move?) where your main rival is just as braindead as First-name-a-city Surname-a-hotel-chain (oh what a coincidence you couldnt just make one up off the top of your head?) "its not just about driving good, its about looking good", really? I'm not exactly blessed with good looks myself, but try telling that to everyone who ever took part in grand prix racing from its very birth. Cant wait to get a decent amount of money to avoid this show of idiocy from whoever decided to put these all-american charachters in the game (but i guess thats not what we are here for).
Having a drive around the island is just as satisfying as the first one, the only downfalls are the police who dont seem to take much notice of speeding (maybe thats not a programming flaw), but will raise your police presence slightly if you ignore a red light, there is also a distinct lack of damage recognition when you accidentally fling yourself into a tree, you dont really get any damage and even sillier, you actually bounce off the tree, there are details in what it sounds like when you hit a rock or a bit of concrete, but its not brilliant, i suppose Edge wanted you to drive the cars rather than crash them. Then theres the vast amount of lag that occurs when you encounter many other M.O.O.R. drivers.
The "club" mode is still unavailable, I havent bought the casino mode DLC yet, but once the programmers get their act together I will try and figure out what we can do race/rally/targa wise.

The Casino DLC was free to everyone who pre-ordered it. I spent about an hour or so on there. The other are DLC cars that were originally planned for pre-order specials, before they changed them. So it's a nice move from Atari.

Re: TDU2
I think as Race Pro and TDU 1/2 have proved, that you don't need top graphics for a great game.
Re: TDU2
@adx, at least there is some damage model in this version compared to TDU1 had none to begin with. and have you had the cops call out the 'chopper' yet? even in my Subie, i couldnt get away. lol.

Re: TDU2
Why don't you go off road, then you may be able to lose the helicopter. But make sure, there are plenty of tree's and a good tunnel system close by.
Re: TDU2
when i go offroad is when they call in the chopper, but cant find a big cluster of trees in time

Re: TDU2
Club mode was reopened, and on trying to invite people to my club, it decided to crash, and when rebooting the game it decided not to load properly...
I'm not impressed.
only a handful of you will get invites, because there is only space for 8 members, unless you pay $5,000,000 to upgrade and have 16 members.
AMR-TORA Ibiza is the club name if your able to find it, but I really feel like getting rid of this game now.
Unmitigated Disaster

Re: TDU2
...Decided to remove my TDU2 gamesave, and have reluctantly started again, and quel suprise the Club mode is unavailable again. Serves me right for thinking they had it sussed.
I also discovered that in club mode you arent able to use the custom layouts to race on instead of time-trialing them.
Bought this game thiking it was going to be an improvement, what I ended up with was essentially DLC that should have come out a year after the first game, but with a layer of vain, self-centred, MTV and ITV2 glamour puke on top. There is NOTHING that Edge/HAVOK/Atari can do to patch up this brainded vegitable of a game, would be like trying to heal someone whos just had his limbs removed with a single bandage, they have mayorally, presitentially, prime-ministerially and royally completely cow, pig, sheep, duck and cocked this game up. I am utterly utterly ripped off right now.

Re: TDU2
fun indeed Slim. i wish we could 'lock-on' like ya could in the first one. my game froze after that multiplayer chase match. i'll be picking things up again tomorrow and try to uncover as many roads on Oahu as i can this weekend. more mileage for the Subie. she had near 700 miles on it before i flew over to Oahu, now its up over 800 so far. lol. and ive just scratched the surface of Hawaii (noticed alot of nice long dirt roads that werent on the island in the first one)

Re: TDU2
Yeah locking on would of made things easier. My game also froze after that chase. Were you chasing me at one point? I was cruising behind you when I hit a cop car and it began, I'm guessing you were involved in the chase....no one catches me.
I'll be on tomorrow too.
Patch in 2 weeks.. already out for PC I believe. http://twitter.com/#!/Leearigold/status/38617431920345088
