Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Greetings all.
As discussed in the lobby last night, Round 7 (last night's meeting) was the final round of the V8 Challenge. The decision was taken to end the series early due to the severe drop in attendance.
To see the V8's off with a bang, we will be organizing a Bathurst-style endurance race to take place on November 9th at 8pm UK time. It will be a single 70min race at Camino Viejo Extreme Reverse.
This will serve as a standalone event, and therefore will NOT score points towards the V8C standings, which are now final. This is in order to allow for new entrants, driver, team and car changes.
The general rules for the event will be exactly the same as those for the V8C series, except that (although due to the length of the race this is likely a necessity, however) you MUST make a mandatory pit stop at least once in the race.
A fresh entry list will be drawn up for this event, so please submit your entries in the following format below (teams & privateers both require a team name and sponsor please):
Team Name:
Title Sponsor:
Driver 1:
Driver 2:
Driver 3:
Race numbers will be allocated consecutively per team, allowing 3 slots per team regardless of driver line-up to allow for drivers to be added later if they sign to a team after initial application.

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
I would, however over 70mins I think people would just leave if they got too heavily damaged, therefore we will stick to Limited damage.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
We will also be looking to try and get a roughly even balance of Holdens-Fords, so please consider this when making your application.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
how about put a vote on the damage? as I woulod like to see a TORA event run with full damage and I feel a fair lot of us would stay if got damaged, not like theres no pit stops.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
OK I'll take comments here to gauge opinion. Also, I amended the entry format to include car preference - a key point I forgot - sorry!
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
I wish I would have known. I would have shown up no matter the mood. Now points are final, and no warning or notice. My own fault I guess. You guys are still just doing things on the fly. Kind of similar to how it was being done before. Lol.

Are we to expect the same treatment for the touring cars? 30% dropout so far in that series.

Yeah, ending the season like that this early seems a bit wierd... I didn't realise we had three rounds left.

Hey Gashi, No the TCC is a core TORA event and that goes for the LMS as well, however due to recent dropout % across a number of championships we are looking at all options.
We want to give our members the best racing next year so 2011 planning and testing has taken a priority but for 2011 we want you the community to run your own racing series as well.
More details TBA.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Also, discussion about "putting dying series out of their misery" has been ongoing for the past few weeks, this should not be a shock to anyone, only that we hadn't decided a specific end date.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Show me the discussion thread. I had no idea it was a possibility for this or any series.
2011 is 2.5 months away. That is a long off season.
I really try to stick it out here, but you guys are making it hard.

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
7 people in a lobby is by no means a ''dying'' series! When I used to run UKVR, we were lucky to get 7 people in a race, and we had two very succesful seasons in a row.

Gashi, you were racing with Chris, Gary and myself in the Formula LeMans, a series which has also suffered from poor attendance, when we discussed how we were considering bringing some of the series to an early end. You even suggested making it an R8 LMS Show Car only series rather than closing it altogether. We talked then about how we were looking at some series as being shut down.
To be quite frank, much of the calendar and series were set up by someone who is no longer with us, but we have tried to keep things moving along. It takes a lot of our time to run these nights, and it pretty disheartening if next to no-one shows up. Our core series, where attendance is reasonably strong, like the Touring Cars and GT4s, will continue the full calendar. But in order to refocus our efforts, we are reducing our series to a more manageable output, something we will be carrying forward into 2011.
We will be using time freed up by the reduced calendar to allow Community led events and series up until 2011, and again that is something we will be pushing for next year.
Nicky, you have attended 2 of the 7 V8C events we have run. There's no point trying to shut the gate after the horse has bolted.

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
In the end you guys have to do what you have to do.
I agree about the talk for the once a month FLM series.
This is an every other tuesday series ran in conjunction with the TCC. It is my normal Tuesday routine to race on TORA. I love it. Now you have taken one of those events away. I am now reduced to racing here only 2 times a month.
You guys moved the TFD event to a time I can not race at, so I had to drop it.
I am making my posts on a purely selfish agenda here guys. I honestly wanted to finish all four of these series here at TORA. Now you have made it so I can only compete in one of them. Kind of sucks when you look at it from my perspective.
Not trying to get angry at you guys, but now I won't be racing much at all here. Kind of sucks. See you guys later.

If people want to support the running of series, we are open to keeping them running. But we need that commitment that people are going to turn up.

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Well if there was a thread about this and that they would need someone to run it I would have been happy enough to offer my help,I know I left this series but I would have rather seen it go to the end then stop dead. Im not saying bring it back I am just saying if it did go to someone else run it way I would have
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Gashi... we have to run series for the benefit of the majority of people. We have been forced to continue with an unsustainable calendar to the detriment of the community and participation.
The discussion to end series early has been long and we would be doing it with an agreement form the whole staff. It would not mean an end to racing between now and the end of the year. There will be scope for other things to happen on those days and times but 2011 is very important to us and we need to redevelop what TORA stands for and what it means to promote. We are not, as I keep saying, another run-of-the-mill racing community and we have a unique opportunity to develop something amazing here/ Bear with us!

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
Since I love the track so much, I will sign up for this.
Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
To follow up what Matt said, the end of the V8s does not mean the end of Tuesday racing, it means there is a slot free for someone to suggest and run a series that would prove more popular. Surely running races that appeal to the many is better than continuing a series that only a handful of people feel inclined to turn up to?
The decision has been made regarding the V8s in terms of a staff-run series; the last outing will be the "Bathurst-like" event, thereafter the Tuesdays that are not scheduled to run TCC races on are available for community-led racing. What that racing turns out to be is up to YOU, yes you!
This thread is for discussion relating to the V8 Camino event. If you wish to continue discussion regarding a community-member-run Tuesday night event/series, please start a thread elsewhere.

Re: Camino Viejo XR 1000km Event & Series Announcement
If there is going to be qualifying and such, I will not be able to participate in this event. 70 minutes of racing if the racing starts at 8 dead on is perfect. The 40 minutes of qualifying and getting lobbies sorted will kill this event for me. The previous event that was held for the V8's was perfect. Perfect start time, allows plenty of time to qually and get the lobbies sorted.
I am all for you guys doing better and growing, but I am done bearing with you. That has been all of 2010 so far. I just want a place to race. You guys aren't providing that anymore by your long planned out cancellation and moving of your other series. Thanks for all the laps.
