The Future of Toruing Cars?
Currently we are in a major transition across the world. DTM is implementing a new rulebook which will be used for an American and Japanese series. BTCC and STCC look set to go down the NGTC path (albeit slightly different), WTCC and the JTCC are going down the S1600 route, and in Aussieland the new ''CoTF'' is going to be implemented... which brings me to this:

Now, just think of the complete overhaul touring car racing would experience if Australia were to develop a similar or compatible car to the DTM regs. No longer would the world be seperated by rulebooks, we would return to a mostly Global formula not too disimilar to Group A with Europe, the Far East, Australasia/Middle East and North America all having a series. Then you have domestic series in the UK, Scandanavia, Germany, Japan, Asia etc which would all be running with smaller capacity, mostly FWD cars.. This globalistation would open back up races like the Bathurst 1000, the Tourist Trophy, the Spa 24 Hours, the classics, for Touring Cars, which would end up creating an ILMC style situation with the manufacturers flooding to the classics to take on the local boys. The only spanner in the works of my masterplan is the FIA WTCC... but hopefully that will die off after a few years
What do you guys think? Should the Aussies get back onto the world stage, or should they keep doing what they are doing with the big heavy V8's we all love?
I can garuntee you that the people incharge of the V8's are having some serious discussions regarding their future now!

Re: The Future of Toruing Cars?
I would love to see the V8s remain as they are, they provide the best racing of all the series just now. Adding incredible amounts of downforce like DTM where they can't get close to each other, like F1, would sort of ruin it. But I would like to see some more manufactures even if they have to come from other countries
Re: The Future of Toruing Cars?
But the thing is, DTM's new cars will have much much less downforce! People seem to forget this when talking about the new DTM rules. Its a complete overhaul.

Re: The Future of Toruing Cars?
If the Aussies are considering it I hope they wait and see what the DTM becomes and what the racing is like. They can take not of the DTM cars vs the SuperGT cars and maybe get something together if the racing is good.
Re: The Future of Toruing Cars?
The new DTM cars are eligible for the VLN, which says quite alot... Sillhouettes are not allowed to compete in the VLN, so hopefully the cars are ''slightly'' production based.

Re: The Future of Toruing Cars?
I honestly feel that Touring cars needs to be much much closer to the showroom cars than they currently are.
However of the current options i feel the BTCC/STCC NGTC rules seem to be the best way to go. Lowering costs and maintaining the looks of the car much closer to a showroom car than Either DTM or JTGC.
The ability to have a variety of cars both FWD and RWD with rules which would allow many manufacturers to enter current models.
