Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
Wow! Really starting to get the feeling that this is going to have T10/PD devs rather worried.
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
EA games are like kit cars. Look great from a afar but once you get your hands on them it's "blugh"
T10 will be really worried if this thing plays well and the servers work. I really hope it happens and a month or so later we hear FM4 is delayed. Then we know for sure that FM4 is going to be on another level. For a great game I'll deal with a little delay.

Nicky totally agree sure Turn 10 will raise the bar
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I doubt T10 are that worried tbh, NFS has always had the looks but the games are damn awful to play. I'm hoping for a demo, no demo means no money from me. EA have been going down hill for years now. I'll probably give it a miss even if it is more sim, EA's servers are bad...and I mean bad.

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
Lets not forget that this is not meant to be an NFS game, that has been dropped from the title on purpose.
Yes there is still a chance it'll be a touch more 'arcadey' than we like but we won't know until April.
I'm holding out hope that theirpromise of a 'sim branch' and an arcadey branch are carried out and we get with Shift 2 the game we deserve

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I'm not worried about the Sim aspect when I say that. I'm worried that EA will fail like they always do on release. The last two games they've dropped the price on before release that I can remember never released another title.
Madden, NCAA football, Medal of Honor, NASCAR, Skate4, NBA Live, March Madness, FIFA 11, and even Battlefield were awful on release at best. Four of these games and maybe a fifth with MoH won't ever be released again.
Skate 5 is going to be be and shouldn't. I had 4 for three weeks and it would constantly freeze (100x more than Forza) and you couldn't connect to the servers 70% of the time. Also riddled with glitches.
Does everyone forget that Battlefield was unplayable online for months? That the guns were so unbalanced that you couldn't win without that LMG?

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
EA have only ever been interested in one thing and that's making quick cash. Throwing whatever they can at consumers with great marketing. Their games are never fully finished. It's always been about the money with EA, and that's the main problem.
I might be more interested if EA gave SMS as long as they want to create and polish off the coding. But just like any other EA release, they want it all done, polished off and in the shops asap, even if the game isn't finished.
I'm not getting my hopes up for a sim when EA know full well that the market for sim's on colsoles isn't that big, so they'll just make a more 'user friendly' engine. Take the first Shift for example, SMS apparently created a great code for it (Or took it straight from GTR2) and EA changed it.

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
I dunno why everyone is getting excited over this just by watching the fancy EA videos that make everything flashy. It'll be the same standard NFS game with its arcadey handling and over the top action. Shift 1 was terrible. Even if EA mysteriously "pulled" the sim handling for the first game at the last minute SMS still had to make the rest of the game including the arcadey handling. I don't see there being a big difference here. Until a demo comes out I won't be buying it. If it is acceptable I may even just wait until it become £5 after a few months like Shift 1 did. That's when I bought mine and I'm extremely glad I hadn't spent full price on it.
Hot Pursuit is great fun, but I still don't like the handling and it is purely and arcade game. I get annoyed by it as the handling goes from being very understeery to overly grippy. It isn't constant which I find strange as Criterion have made the Burnout games perfect for an arcade racer for years and then couldn't reproduce it when they started working on the NFS brand.
This game seems to be getting the same pre-release praise that Race Pro had...

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
How can you write a game off before you try it? This kind of attitude really annoys me. There have been a bunch of games recently where people said "oh no another bad [insert name here] game" pre-release that has turned out to be very good, and they have suffered because of the pre-release bad-mouthing.
Occasionally the post-release feedback shines through and people get over themselves and try it (like Batman: Arkham Assylum) but others, which are still great just remain slow burners (like Transformers: War For Cybertron).
I've even seen teams of developers get made redundant on release day because of the pre-release trending, and then the game has gone on to become profitable (Ensemble Studios: Halo Wars sold over 1m copies in the first month).

Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
when i loaded the shift 1 demo last night for the first time,i thought it looked amazing ,the car was crystal clear the whole opening movie looked the part in much the same way as shift2 does, but as soon as i got in the car and drove OMG what a pile of goat sh~t i really was dissapointed.I really hope shift 2 lives up to expectation but really struggle to think how it will.

Matt totally agree :-)
Any way back on track does any 1 know if you will be able to paint cars in shift 2?
Re: Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
There is a ''new vynil system'' aparently, but It has not been said how it works.
