I realize this is way out of date, but I'm not sure if the issue was ever resolved. It is as you say; a sponsorship, which are never required in real life, they are simply contracts. That is, if you want to depict realism... think of Tom Petty and Rusty Wallace. They made a personal investment without dealing without contracts after being with NASCAR for so long. Last I checked, only had their own name on their cars- in short, thats just cutting out the "sponsorship prize money". So whats the BFD?
