RIP Dan Wheldon one of top Indycar drivers ever to race
Feel awful for his boys and family.
on the feed i watched it was said that Dario & Tony told the other drivers, must have been really hard for them but im not sure about going back in the cars.

Re: Dan Wheldon
I've been in tears since it was announced.
A good tribute to Dan, very emotional for me.
I'm sorry for not saying bye on XBL chat. It has hit me very hard, I can't really speak right now.

Re: Dan Wheldon
I don't really watch indycar to be honest. But no-one in this modern day and age should die behind the wheel of a race car.
Rest In Peace Dan Wheldon. All thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Re: Dan Wheldon
The news of Dan's death is a hammer blow to an otherwise fantatsic weekend of racing action around the world.
Dan has been a fabulous competitor for a good number of years and his astounding win in the Indy 500 proved he still had the skill and determination to compete at the highest levels.
His death today will no doubt cause many to question the validity of our sport and whether the risk really is worth the ultimate gains. To this I would say we race because we can and because we love our sport. Dan loved this sport. He has, along with Dario done a fantastic job in opening up Indycar to a British audience. Certainly I knew of him before I had heard much about Dario and my regular interest in US racing was to see how Dan had fared over the weekend.
He is a tragic loss to the sport as a whole.
RIP DW

Re: Dan Wheldon
How tragic that this was to happen to Dan, one of the most experienced and successful drivers in the field, amongst the wild card rookies on a track that should not have been raced on for fears of surface condition. How tragic that it happened to a driver who was helping develop a new safer car which would have prevented such an accident.
But most of all, how absolutely tragic that it happened to a young husband and father of a young family.
From this day, any time I hear Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, I'll think of that five lap salute to Dan, i'll think of all the lives he touched, both in Indycar and outside Indycar, of those he met and those he didn't meet, and i'll think, most of all, of his two sons, who are not even old enough to remember their hero of a father, Dan.

Re: Dan Wheldon
RIP Dan. I never really followed Indycar so I only knew of him in the series, but after watching the 5 lap salute after the crash it was very moving. Any race driver in modern day racing shouldn't die, but these things happen and it happened to him whilst he was doing what he loved.
Re: Dan Wheldon
RIP Dan. I've never felt the shock of watching someone die on a race track. It's certainly something I won't soon forget...

Just found out that Wheldon had signed to race for Andretti Green on a muti year deal, replacing Danica Patrick

Re: Dan Wheldon
Who is the female presenter? Which driver is she the wife of? She did very well to hold it together through that.
Fantastic tribute.

She's Nicole Briscoe, so I can assume she's Ryan Briscoe's wife.

Re: Dan Wheldon
Went to Danny's funeral yesterday and it was a very, VERY nice service with quite a few heart felt moments, lots of smiles surprisingly, a few tears of joy and obviously the usual tears of sorrow. I wish everyone could have been there it truely was special.

Re: Dan Wheldon
I learned that the 1-year anniversary of his passing is on Tuesday.
I found this topic, and watched the tribute in the post above. It is an amazing tribute.
Every time I watch an old Indycar video on Youtube with him in it, I think about him and what happened that day.
R.I.P. Dan Wheldon.

Re: Dan Wheldon
Man it feels like just yesterday that he died. I still have a black DW twibbon on my Twitter profile picture. I hardly watched IRL but I am a fan of his and I was very saddened by what transpired that day. It's because of that tragic day I no longer watch IRL oval races.
RIP Danny boy we all miss you
