2012 TORA Wheldon 500

Saturday May 19 at 7pm BST / 2pm EST / 11am PST / 4am AUS EST

Last year we ran a 50 lap race in remembrance of Dan Wheldon, who was tragically killed in the final round of the IZOD Indycar Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This year, I would like to run another long race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And seeing as the real Indy 500 is a week after this race, I felt like this would be the best time to do it.

The current plan is to use completely unrestricted Acura ARX-02a's (the P1 car).

We will race the full 500 miles, unless we hit our time limit of 3 hours.

Damage will be cosmetic, and safety cars rule will be more sensitive. Basically, if 2 cars get too far behind the pack due to an accident (getting caught in sticky grass, hitting the wall, etc.), then a safety car (Rollin InAn STI) will be deployed.

The only requirements I require for paint are for you to have your TORA number on the rear wing endplates as well as on the nose of the car.

two hour timed race. We can call a finish after an hour and 50 minutes.

That's the day before my birthday and a Saturday so i unforutnately won't be able to make this

If enough people are interested, yet can't do it on that day, I'll probably move it. But I can't really move it too much as the following Saturday is graduation and all the Sundays are booked for ISCC or GT racing.

I'd be in for this, if I end up buying hold again, I'm not much of a speedway fan, but Inverness though Indy is basically the same, it's better for me cos they are going a lot faster and they have more road corses, so I'd be interested

I defernately wouldn't say NO to this event. I'll defernately be IN!

I have a set-up which has no downforce for increased top speed that I can share with the entire field for the event. I used it in the Wheldon 500 last year.

Yeah, I'd love to do this again, the race we had last year was intense, passing back and forth every lap, it almost looked like a late nineties CART race with the hanford device.

And, of course, the winner has to post a picture of theirself drinking milk.

I'll put you and Dan down as entrants on unofficial entry list.

Is 2 hours even enough time to do the 500 miles? Regardless, I am up for the 2 hour event. Now I to start painting a car for this.

@Kilroy I don't know just yet, but probably. I may just set the grid to random, as qualifying won't matter as much.

@Bruno I'll be running a practice session later on to calculate about how long the race should be.

With this being the Wheldon 500, would it be acceptable to run a Greg Moore tribute car?

When I get back from Boston, I'll knock out a design for the Safety Car. But before I do that, I have to decide what car to use.

I haven't scoped at any other posts, but I'll be first to say that I shall be trying to replicate the winning livery from last years Indy 500.

There aren't really any rules as far as paint. Just got to have your TORA number on the rear wing endplates and on the nose.

That would be a fantastic looking car. Greg was such a massive loss to the sport too, as was Dan.

I think I'll be running either a Kool Green Racing car (Blue, like Franchitti's in 2002), a Motorola PacWest car (Like Mark Blundell's) or some kind of Newman/Hass car from over the years.
